Job Summary



The Content Marketing Editor is a member of UCM's Content Strategy team. Led by the Executive Director of Content Strategy, the team guides the planning, creation, delivery, and governance of useful, relevant content for Indiana University and its audiences.


Department-Specific Responsibilities


  • Ensures the production of error-free content developed for projects and campaigns that strengthen Indiana University's reputation, build brand awareness, and advance its strategic goals.

  • Collaborates closely with content specialists, content strategists, marketing strategists, and web and constituent experience strategists.

  • Reviews promotional materials, signage, videos, social media, print and digital advertisements, reports, newsletters, email campaigns, slide decks, and websites for accuracy, grammar, spelling, and coherence.

  • Edits marketing copy and content for print, digital, and web while maintaining relevance and messaging impact.

  • Understands and implements IU's enterprise content strategy to effectively reach target audiences and achieve marketing goals.

  • Verifies factual accuracy and cross-referencing details for consistency across multiple pieces of content.

  • Conducts quality control reviews of print, digital, and web content to ensure content is ready for publication or distribution.

  • Ensures new content is optimized for SEO and user experience.

  • Reviews final versions of content for overlooked spelling, grammatical, and syntax errors.

  • Edits existing content for optimization and repurposing .

  • Manages and publishes content in IU's content management system and Rivet design system.

  • Evaluates content for consistency in terminology, tone, and formatting across all platforms.

  • Checks adherence to brand guidelines and approved web templates.

  • Helps develop and maintain IU's guides for content, style, and voice and tone.

  • Provides feedback to content marketing specialists on narrative structure, tone, and messaging.

  • Suggests improvements to enhance the effectiveness and engagement of content.

  • Provides backup writing support for content marketing specialists.

  • Keeps up with copywriting and content development trends.

  • Manages and implements feedback.

General Responsibilities


  • Writes and edits clear, informative written content for various communications needs, audiences, and publication formats, assessing for relevance, accuracy, and appropriateness, tailors the degree of copyediting to a project's specific needs.

  • Independently corrects basic and complex grammar, spelling, punctuation, formatting, and syntax errors and performs edits that improve overall writing quality of communications and ensure alignment with the university mission, strategies, objectives, and brand and accessibility guidelines.

  • Performs reviews of peer writing to ensure grammar, quality, tone, and level of depth are sufficient; may also review against requirements for specific publications, including content, length, brand guidelines, and deadline specifications.

  • Regularly consults with writers, printers, faculty, staff, and/or other stakeholders to ensure adherence to writing and publications deadlines.

  • Identifies user and audience needs and analyzes usage of existing content in order to identify content gaps; plans, develops, and publishes internal and external communications.

  • Drafts sample communications to be reviewed with manager at project deadline checkpoints.

  • May provide guidance to other Writing/Editing Specialists.

EDUCATION



Required



  • Bachelor's degree in English, communications, journalism, public relations, or related field



WORK EXPERIENCE



Required



  • 2 years in relevant field



Preferred



  • 2 years in role focused on content creation and production (e.g., copywriting, content marketing)

  • Experience writing and editing copy or content for a variety of media and channels

  • Experience distilling complex information into compelling, accessible content

  • Experience in brand or admissions marketing

  • Experience independently researching data

Working Conditions / Demands



This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
