Purpose



The Durham Office Director heads the local CWS office in Durham, North Carolina, managing the day-to-day operations and strategic direction of the Durham location and its satellite site in Burlington, NC. The Director provides program oversight for budget tracking; identifies funding opportunities and assists with writing proposals; promotes involvement of local congregations and community members; supervises staff; and completes monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to CWS, its partners, and other funding agencies.



Responsibilities





  • Support the development of the local Durham office by, enriching local partnerships, and developing a plan for receiving financial and in-kind donations to support current clients.

  • Set up operational support for the office, including securing office equipment, mailing supplies, etc.

  • Engage local churches, church leadership bodies and national denominations in partnership to encourage support of the Durham office.

  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise staff in accordance with CWS personnel policies and guidance from CWS Human Resources.

  • Promote teamwork, coordinate the workload of staff, delegate responsibilities, foster collaboration and hold staff accountable for upholding CWS values and policies, and for full compliance with all programs, funder and operational commitments and obligations.

  • Address emergency situations as they arise and mediate conflict as necessary.

  • Prepare grant proposals, reports, and budgets for new and existing programs.

  • Actively pursue funding opportunities to obtain private resources for general operating support.

  • Perform ongoing analysis of program needs in response to the changing needs of client population.

  • Work with national CWS staff to plan program development.

  • Monitor funding received from CWS and other sources to ensure responsible fiscal administration of programs.

  • Oversee development of private resources to support clients.

  • Prepare (or oversee preparation of) regular expense reports and reimbursement requests.

  • Complete programmatic and financial reports for funding sources as required.

  • Collaborate with program supervisors to develop organizational quality control mechanisms.

  • Consult with the Regional Director and CWS headquarters staff to develop and implement protocols and procedures on human resources, program development, and financial matters relevant to the Local office.

  • Participate in meetings on the national, state, and local levels, including those with stakeholders in Durham, including colleague agencies.

  • Engage in on-site monitoring visits conducted by CWS national staff and/or federal partners.

  • Represent CWS in interactions with the local community agencies.

  • Provide ongoing training to staff on program developments and service requirements.

  • Work various hours as necessary, including some night and weekend work.

  • Perform other duties as requested.




Qualifications



Education & Certifications: Bachelor's degree plus a minimum of 8 years' work experience with immigrants, including at least two years of direct social service experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Experience:

  • Experience in program management, planning, and development required.

  • Experience with refugee resettlement programs strongly preferred.

  • Minimum of 2 year's experience in staff supervision is required.

  • Experience working cooperatively with a wide range of organizations is required.

  • Experience with ORR programs strongly preferred.

  • Previous experience in working with immigrant children and youth preferred.

  • Previous experience managing volunteers strongly preferred.

Skills:

  • Superior written and oral communication skills are required.

  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment required.

  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and willingness to support CWS' Platform on Racial Justice as a CWS employee required.




Special Requirements





  • A high level of computer literacy is required, with proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) as well as internet and email applications.

  • Must possess valid driver's license and insurance and be able to pass an MVR check

  • Must be able to pass a stringent background check
