The Assistant Women's Volleyball Coach reports directly to the Head Coach and the Director of Athletics, adhering to the SIUE Principles Governing Athletics. This position plays a key role in supporting the overall goals and objectives of the athletics program, while contributing to the development of the volleyball team. The Assistant Coach will assist the Head Coach in organizing practices, recruitment efforts, team travel, fundraising activities, and other duties as assigned by the Head Coach or Director of Athletics. This role requires full compliance with University, Conference, and NCAA Division I rules and regulations, and emphasizes cooperation with other departmental staff. The Assistant Coach will support the student-athlete concept, focusing on the health, safety, and well-being of each student-athlete.
Key Responsibilities:
On-the-Court Coaching & Player Development:
Develop individual player skills, tailored to both the physical and mental needs of each athlete, as well as position-specific requirements.
Monitor player development and design effective practice drills to enhance fundamental skills.
Collaborate with the athletic trainer and strength coach to create player-specific exercises and drills.
Assess player talent based on team needs, both for the current season and for future team projections.
Scout prospective talent at games and key tournaments to evaluate skills and abilities.
Provide recommendations for scholarship allocations.
Scout opponents, analyzing their strengths and weaknesses, and assist in developing strategies for upcoming games based on competitive analysis.
Review game film or scouting reports to devise effective game strategies.
Team Management & Logistics:
Assist with team travel arrangements, ensuring all logistics are managed, including meals, accommodations, meeting rooms, warm-up schedules, and playing time in alignment with coaching goals.
Negotiate pricing for all travel arrangements, securing complementary rooms and upgrades where possible.
Coordinate and arrange community outreach opportunities, including transportation to activities and events.
Monitor players’ required hours to ensure compliance with team regulations.
Academic Support & Player Welfare:
Plan and arrange team meals and ensure a positive experience for athletes during travel and events.
Meet with individual players to discuss academic progress, addressing study table needs and ensuring appropriate academic support.
Collaborate with academic advisors to track player progress and develop plans for addressing any academic deficiencies.
Follow up with players to confirm that their class schedules are appropriate and that academic goals are being met.
Administrative Support:
Develop team itineraries, ensuring alignment with coaching objectives, facility availability, and budgetary guidelines.
Assist with any other duties as directed by the Head Coach or Director of Athletics.
This position requires a dynamic individual who is committed to the development and success of the volleyball program while upholding the values and standards of the athletic department.
Typical Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree
Evidence of sound organizational and communication skills
Ability to interact effectively with student-athletes, colleagues, and the public
One (1) to two (2) years of coaching experience (this includes graduate assistantships)
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree
Collegiate Coaching experience
Previous playing experience
Experience utilizing data analytics software (i.e. Volleymetrics, Balltime, etc)
Knowledge of UNCAA rules and regulations.
