Overview Of Acuity Adaptable Progressive Care Unit




TheAcuity Adaptable Progressive Care Unit New Graduate and Registered Nurse provides clinical care and coordination skills to every patient served in the unit using theEskenazi Healthmodel of care, Synergy. TheAcuity Adaptable Progressive Care Unit Registered Nurse coordinates with the patient, family/loved ones and other healthcare disciplines to ensure care is appropriate to patient care needs.


At Eskenazi Health, new acute care nurses are welcomed to the organization through the Linda Hojnacki, RN, Nurse Residency Program. Designed for acute care nurses with less than one year experience and graduate nurses, the residency program supports the transition to practice and prepares nurses to care for complex patients and increasing acuity needs common in hospital settings. Eskenazi Health nurses are surrounded by a strong network of accomplished individuals who value nurses and are invested in their success for not only their development but also improved patient safety and quality of care.


Acuity Adaptable Care at Eskenazi Health represents abroad spectrumof inpatient services across 3 floors of our acute care hospital. Patients admitted to an acuity adaptable unit at Eskenazi Health receive services from a wide variety of clinical specialties including: orthopedics, oncology, cardiology, palliative care, neurology, trauma, medicine, renal, urology, pulmonology, infectious disease,and more. Acuity Adaptable offers all private roomsas well astelemetry monitoring capability.




What Schedule Can I Expect?




The Acuity Adaptable Progressive Care Unit team does take advantage of 6-week self-scheduling where team members request the days they work. We do offer a full time schedule which consists of three 12-hour shifts on either day shift (6:30AM - 7PM) or night shift (7PM - 6:30AM). There are no on-call requirements and team members rotate holidays.



What Are Nurse To Patient Ratios?



The department follows a primary care nursing model and typically utilizes a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio. Patients vary in acuity and complexity, ranging from Med/Surg to high acuity Progressive Care status. All nurses are supported by 24/7 onsite Manager and Educator support.




What Does Training Look Like?




Eskenazi Health has a dedicated clinical education team that works with new hires the first week on board. The orientation period is typically 12-weeks and during this timeframe new members will be paired with a preceptor.Continued support is provided by managers, clinical educators, and seasoned staff.One aspect that sets Eskenazi Health apart is there is a clinical educator and manager on every shift, even on weekends!


At Eskenazi Health, new acute care nurses are welcomed to the organization through the Linda Hojnacki, RN, Nurse Residency Program. The nurse residency program follows Patricia Benner's Novice to Expert Theory, providing a multi-modal learning format and resources specifically targeting the needs of the novice nurse to foster growth and development. The six-month program hosts four cohorts clustered by hire date. The average size of each cohort is 24 people and provides:


• Orientation to the Eskenazi Health culture and introduction to key members of the Senior Leadership Team and Nursing Leadership


• Guided leadership, support and facilitation from a dedicated nurse residency coordinator


• Monthly educational sessions that address clinical care, communication, patient outcomes, professionalism and resiliency/wellness


• Didactic lectures, simulation lab and interactive activities provided by experts at Eskenazi Health


• Support for the development of decision making, assessment, communication and patient advocacy skills

Qualifications




Associates Degree in Nursing from accredited college/university required, Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited college/university preferred.Current Indiana license as a Registered Nurse or eligibility for license.


  • BLS certification required (Can be obtained during onboarding training).

  • ACLS Certification required (Can be obtained during onboarding training).

  • NIH Certification required (Can be obtained during onboarding training).

  • Critical thinking skills are essential
