The primary purpose of the William and Mary Police Department is to support the greater university community in their core pursuits of teaching, research and public service.
"It is imperative that we provide police, public safety, emergency communications, and emergency management services in a manner that not only keeps people safe, but also ensures that people feel safe in their environment.
To protect life and property and enforce the laws of the Commonwealth as well as the rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of William & Mary in such a manner as to create an environment conducive to the educational mission of William & Mary.
1. Completion of the Criminal Justice Basic Police Academy or completed within one year of hire.
2. Must be able to pass a comprehensive background investigation which includes reference checks, fingerprinting, sex offender registry check DMV driving records.
3. Must be able to pass physical agility examination, psychological evaluation, drug screening and medical examination.
4. Ability to successfully complete a specified law enforcement training program within 1 year of hire.
5. Valid Division of Motor Vehicles operator's license.
6. Ability to perform essential physical requirements of the job to include during inclement weather conditions
7. Rotating shifts with holidays and weekends duty will be required.
8. Ability to obtain and maintain certification in CPR and First AID.
9. This is a non-exempt position, eligible to receive overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act. This position may be subject to overtime during high peak times, etc. as directed and approved by the supervisor.

All hiring rates are commensurate with relevant experience up to the advertised amount considering internal alignment.
