Our Civil Engineering team is growing, and we are looking for you. Our team is comprised of highly skilled civil hydrologic, structural, and geotechnical engineers, consulting to the world's largest stakeholders for solar, wind, and battery storage energy projects. We are seeking a Senior Civil Engineer who is ready to grow and develop while supporting our US and Canadian team.

The engineer in this position will be exposed to the broadest cross-section of solar, storage and wind projects of any renewables company in the world supporting a wide breath of civil engineering projects by providing civil, owners and independent engineering consulting services for the renewable industry. Our team is charged with ensuring civil works of solar, infrastructure and wind are consistent with current standards and prepared to operate well into the future of the renewable energy industry. We help Customers mitigate risk and act as a keystone in helping some of the largest, most technically complex renewable energy projects develop successfully.

This role is based at our DNV office in San Diego (CA), Austin (TX), Houston (TX), Oakland (CA), Portland (OR), Seattle (WA), Medford (MA) or Dallas (TX), presenting a dynamic hybrid schedule where employees will typically spend three (3) days per week working from either a DNV office or client location/site. Further details regarding role-specific requirements will be shared during the interview process.



The position may also be considered at other DNV offices within US.



What You'll Do


  • Multi-disciplinary collaboration for Independent Engineering, Owner's Engineering, and Merger & Acquisition services
  • Review civil design drawings and studies for solar and wind energy project's civil infrastructure, to support project financing or owner due diligence processes
  • Construction monitoring site visits, construction QA/QC documentation review of solar and wind energy project construction
  • Support design of solar and wind Projects (up to approximately 30% design); from siting to preliminary design, to EPC bid handling
  • Evaluate root cause analyses from flooding and erosion of solar and wind energy projects
  • Proposal preparation for civil work scope for wind and solar services
  • Project management of small to large projects
  • Mentoring of team members and providing or developing training material for new services

As required by the Pay Transparency laws in Colorado, New York City, California, Washington, and Connecticut, DNV provides a reasonable compensation range for roles that may be hired in those locations. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors, including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. For the states of Colorado, New York City, NY, California, Washington, and Connecticut only, the range of starting pay for this role is $125,000 - $165,000.




What is Required



  • Bachelor of Science - civil engineering or hydrology

  • At least 7 years of experience with project design through construction with a minimum of 3 of those years in the renewable energy industry

  • P.E. or P.Eng. license

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil3D and/or other Autodesk design tools

  • Proficiency in IBC, ASCE 7 and other common civil/hydrology design codes

  • Familiarity with hydraulic engineering software systems (FLO2D, HEC-RAS, WMS, SMS or equivalents)

  • Knowledge of common layout concepts and understanding of typical construction methods for solar and wind energy projects

  • Understanding of stormwater management regulations in the US and/or Canada for project construction

  • Able to work independently and make independent decisions when called for

  • Willing and able to travel up to 20% of the time, varied for domestic and international

  • Willing and able to use common construction personal protective equipment, walk over uneven terrain, and climb ladders during site visits

  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills

  • We conduct pre-employment drug and background screening

  • A valid Drivers License is required


What is Preferred



  • Understanding of hydrologic and hydraulic concepts and analysis, specific to assessments at solar and wind projects

  • Prior experience with other infrastructures (transmission line, substation, hydrogen)

  • Prior experience in land surveying and mapping

  • Prior experience with GIS, hydraulic modelling, FEMA requirements
