We are seeking a skilled Cost Engineer to support cost estimating and analysis activities for a diverse range of transportation projects.
This is a long term, full-time, onsite position located in San Jose, CA.
Responsibilities
Prepares cost reports, schedule and other reports to support and drive capital project delivery.
Effectively utilizes WBS structures to organize scope-based activities and their associated budgets, commitments, expenditures, and forecasted costs.
Understands budget appropriate on/contract authority vs. secured/committed funds.
Works closely with project managers and other stakeholders to understand scope.
Prepares capital project requests, monitors progress and updates reports.
Reviews consultant and contractor progress payments to ensure consistency with client and/or project management policies and procedures.
Assists in the development of policies and procedures for cost control, reporting and scheduling.
Maintains various project controls/reporting tools like staffing plans and related databases, financial reports and project schedules.
Works as liaison between project delivery and various other divisions and departments.
Understands project status, next steps, challenges and prepare various reports including grant reports.
Understands and communicates project fund sources and their eligibilities.
Understands project details and relates them to higher level programs and agency requirements, goals, and objectives.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Architecture or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2 - 5 years of experience in cost engineering as applied to engineering and construction projects.
Professional knowledge of cost engineering concepts, theories, principles, practices, and techniques necessary to plan, design, construct, and maintain engineering projects.
Experience with industry standard project, cost engineering, and construction management software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project, Procore, Sage Timberline, Heavy Bid, On-Screen Take Off, Bluebeam, etc.)
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Outlook, Work, Excel, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
Transportation project experience preferred.
Professional Engineering (PE) license in the state of California.
PMP certification through PMI or CCM through CMAA.
Compensation Details
The salary range listed for this role is $39-61/hr. ($81-127k/yr.) The final salary offered is based on multiple factors and is thoughtfully aligned with each candidates level of experience, breadth of skills, total education achieved, certifications/licenses that have been obtained, etc.
