Job Description:

1. Job Summary:
Contribute to the overall mission and goals of YMCA Camps by providing leadership and management in the following areas: canoe maintenance and repairs, development and implementation of canoe programs, assisting in the maintenance and upgrading of buildings and grounds, assist in the maintenance of equipment, food service staffing as required.

2. Essential Functions:
Manage the canoe shop and all areas related to the maintenance and repairs of the camps fleet of 100+ wooden canoes as well as other canoes that are used for programming.
Develop skills in building wood and canvas canoes.
Collaborate with the Program Directors to execute the canoe program as it relates to summer trail staff and campers.
Develop, implement, and expand the canoe shop programs in the fall/winter/spring to include weekend workshops, involvement with Environmental Education groups, and other programming efforts.
Assist the Site Manager in the overall maintenance of facilities to include: carpentry work, interior and exterior finishes, systems monitoring, janitorial responsibilities, and work crew supervision.
Assist in the food service at camp including preparing meals for groups as needed.
Work with the Board of Management, alumni, and volunteers including the Canoe Fleet Management Committee.
Participate in staff meetings and become an active member of the staff team.
Willing to perform additional responsibilities as needed.

3. Relationships:
The Canoe Master represents the camp to public, private, and parochial schools and groups that utilize program.
4. Qualifications:
Required
Minimum age of 18.
Adult and Pediatric First Aid & CPR/AED provided by YMCA or other certified organization
Knowledge and skills in wooden canoe maintenance, repair, construction, program development, and other areas related to the position.
Strong organizational skills and a willingness to work closely with others.
Ability to work as a member of a team and the ability to accomplish tasks with little direct supervision.
Ability to perform and teach many areas of programming.
Flexibility and willing attitude related to working in a camp environment.
Ability to lead and cook meals for up to 150 people.
Ability to obtain Food Safe Certification by the county Public Health Department.
Preferred
Experience working with contractors, vendors, and suppliers.
Ability to become DQF (formerly DOT) certified driver.

6. Work Conditions:
Must have the physical ability to lead and participate in camp activities which include, but are not limited to, hiking, canoeing, swimming, team building initiatives, building campfires, physical games, and activities.
May be required to attend meetings or trainings sessions at locations outside of camp.
Ability to lift a canoe weighing up to 90lbs and carry up to a hundred yard away.
