The candidate should be motivated and capable of working independently and/or with the GPI/SCDOT Project Team. Candidates must be available to work the Contractors hours of operation, up to and including day or night shift and weekends, as necessary for Project completion. Responsibilities:
Perform daily field inspections and observations of contractors work for heavy highway and/or bridge construction projects, including earthwork, subgrade, asphalt, concrete, reinforcing steel, structural steel, MOT, safety devices, and utilitiesAbility to measure, compute, record, and maintain contract quantities for contractor paymentCapability to read and interpret Project plans, specifications, and standardsPerform and/or observe material sampling and testing in accordance with Project standards and specificationsEnsure contractors work/materials meet standards and specificationsAbility to properly document daily Project progress, including work performed, conformance/nonconformance with plans/specifications, manpower, equipment, contract quantities, and extra workEntering and recording project progress, materials, payments, and documentation in AASHTOWare Project and/or other electronic software programIdentify and clearly communicate project issues to project managers and the ContractorAbility to identify, assess, and communicate unsafe conditions with the Contractor
Qualifications:
SCDOT or other DOT Construction inspection experienceInspection Certifications withSCDOT
Asphalt Roadway TechnicianEarthwork and Base CourseFoundations (Drilled Shaft and Pile)
ACI Field Grade I Concrete Testing TechnicianNICET certifications may allow for a temporary waiver to practice if SCDOT Certifications are actively pursued
