Medical Director, Transplant Diagnostics





Position Summary:



Transplant Diagnostics has an excellent opportunity for a Medical Director to lead our Medical Affairs function. This includes all aspects of clinical utility and application of TDX's solutions across the continuum of customers (transplant surgeons, clinicians, coordinators, hospital executives, administrators, and laboratories, channel partners, professional organizations, etc.) across the division's business segments.


This position will run several capabilities across a diverse ecosystem from medical science resources and clinical strategy to health economics and reimbursement. This also involves leading all aspects of coordinating the development and management of customer relationships, maintaining a high level of customer interaction, and promoting the adoption of Thermo Fisher's products and services. The position serves as the division's clinical authority for internal and external customers. This role reports into the President, Transplant Diagnostics Division.




What You'll Do:




Translate business objectives into clinical utility, strategy, health economic utility, and clinical education to support market access and adoption.


Develop clinical evidence and health economic study plans required to support product launches and adoption of assays and services aligned to the division's strategic goals.


Lead teams that drive division-wide partnership and engagement with collaborators, customers, and partners across all business areas related to Medical Affairs activities.


Drive clinical strategy using pre- and post-market clinical evidence, including prioritization of investigator-led studies to drive clinical utility.


Serve as liaison to medical societies to ensure product feedback and customer needs are clearly communicated back to marketing, RA, R&D etc.


Coordinate surveillance of published literature and clinical results for products across all pertinent indications for strategic purposes and use in regulatory submissions.


Collaborate with external clinical investigators, researchers, and leaders with a point of view to promote the integration of transplant products and services into clinical practice.


Establish, expand, and develop effective relationships with clinical authorities and other influencers within the field of transplantation.


Promote the exchange of fair-balanced scientific and technical assay and disease state information on behalf of the business.


Lead clinical support to channel partners through customer meetings, presentation and clinical evaluations.


Assess and coordinate external requests for research, training, and continuing medical education.


Maintain clinical compliance of activities with Thermo Fisher Scientific policies as well as pertinent local, state, and federal regulations.



What Do You Bring?



  • Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) required in transplantation (solid organ or stem cell) or immunology. Background in nephrology a plus. MBA or MHA preferred.

  • 10+ years healthcare experience required, preferably in the transplant area. Experience working in industry for a pharmaceutical or medical device / diagnostics company preferred.

  • 7+ years dynamic people management experience, including forming teams and processes.

  • Validated experience building clinical strategy framework and capabilities, including health economics.

  • Exposure and familiarity with reimbursement/coding practices.

  • Demonstrated results growing clinical demand generation and scientific engagement from various customer groups (physicians, labs, hospitals, etc.)

  • Strong network of Key Opinion Leaders.

  • Ability to work in a highly matrixed and environment.

  • Proven capability for scientific, creative and analytical thinking, and an ability to present and maintain fair-balance during scientific discussions/presentations.

  • Ability to expertly communicate skills both in writing and via formal presentations.
