Position Title:Student Employee, Chemistry/Physics Lab Assistant
Job Description:Assist the Physical Science Lab Supervisor in keeping labs prepared for classes and assist Geology instructor with maintaining storage area.

STATUS: Part time
DEPARTMENT: Natural Sciences and Physical Education (NSPE)

REPORTS TO: Geoffrey White, Physical Science Lab Supervisor
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt
MINIMUM PAY RATE: $15.00 per hour
(Position is FWS Eligible)
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Abide by Safety Procedures & Policies as detailed in the JJC Chemical Hygiene Plan.
2. Assist in reorganizing and maintaining Geology storage area.
3. Clean up chemistry and physics lab areas.
4. Maintain the stock of glassware and equipment.
5. Prepare laboratory materials for Chemistry and Physics courses.
6. Work 10-20 hours per week, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8
AM and 4 PM.
7. Perform related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. GPA of 2.0 or above.
2. Must be enrolled at JJC in at least 6 credit hours.
1. Basic understanding of chemistry principles.
2. Complete previous coursework in Chemistry and/or Physics.
3. Must be able to work well with others.
4. Must be able to communicate effectively.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. A grade of "B" or better in Chemistry 101.
2. Has taken college-level Geology course.
3. English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.
4. Demonstrated multicultural competence.

WORKING CONDITIONS
* Duties are performed indoors in the chemistry, physics, and geology labs and preparation areas.
* Split time between Main campus and Romeoville campus.

Scheduled Weekly Hours: This is a student employee position that works around your class schedule. May work up to 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters. During summer and holiday breaks (Winter/Spring), may work up to 28 hours per week with supervisor approval.
