The University of North Texas (UNT) is a Carnegie R1 research university and a federally designated Hispanic-Serving Institution and Minority-Serving Institution with a population of over 45,000 students. The UNT Chemistry Department consists of 29 faculty members, including 20 research-active faculty; over 100 graduate students; and approximately 200 undergraduate chemistry majors. The department is in a growth phase, having hired an endowed Welch Chair in Chemistry, two new Associate Professors, and five new Assistant Professors in the past five years, and with plans attain a core of 25 research-active faculty over the next few years. Our department has a strong culture of interdisciplinary collaboration, with specific strengths in materials chemistry, computational chemistry, and catalysis. New research staff have the opportunity to contribute to these areas, as well as interfacing with growing interdisciplinary programs in Chemical Biology and Chemistry Education. Position Overview
The UNT Chemistry Department invites applications for a full-time Research Scientist III position in NMR Spectroscopy to begin as early as December 2024. The role of the position is to manage the department's NMR facility, maintain its 400 and 500 MHz FT-NMR spectrometers, and train and support users. Applicants should have a strong background in NMR spectroscopy. Experience maintaining, repairing, and/or upgrading modern FT-NMR spectrometers is strongly preferred. Job duties include day-to-day maintenance of the spectrometers, conducting routine software upgrades, coordinating major repairs, training users and managing instrument time, assisting students and faculty in designing and executing non-routine NMR experiments, and facilitating efforts to upgrade the facility when needed. Review of applications will begin November 25, 2024 and will continue until the position is filled.
Minimum Qualifications
· A Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a closely related field
· Significant experience with NMR spectroscopy
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
· Knowledge of theory and experimental application of NMR spectroscopy
· Troubleshooting and repair skills
· Customer service skills
Preferred Qualifications
· Postdoctoral research experience and/or experience in the chemical industry
· A record of peer-reviewed publications related to NMR spectroscopy
· Knowledge of LINUX
· Experience with solid-state NMR
