The Director, Annual Giving, reports to the Senior Director for Annual Giving + Digital Initiatives and is responsible for leading and supporting an omni-channel, data-driven, annual giving program at the University of Miami.



The Director, Annual Giving oversees the development programs for assigned divisions within the organization with the goal of enlisting widespread and active support for the University's advancement efforts. The incumbent orchestrates all member relations activities to increase and sustain donations.



The director is responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive and integrated solicitation program for annual donors. The director and their team will each manage relationships with development officers for specific units/schools/colleges to incorporate all channels of giving, including direct mail, email, phone, text-to-give, and other means, including Venmo, Cash App, etc. The director will support an institutional day of giving, and other campaign initiatives.



CORE JOB FUNCTIONS


1. Responsible for the strategic planning and execution of a reimagined leadership giving program, including segmentation, benefits, and the retention of a long-term pipeline of philanthropic support.


2. Establishes annual revenue goals and associated metrics for the program, utilizing dashboards and reports to monitor progress.


3. Develops goals and strategies for all fundraising campaigns in coordination with the Sr. Director, Annual Giving.


4. Creates a balanced funding mix of donor sources and solicitation programs tailored to the needs of the organization.


5. Facilitates segmentation strategy around securing current use, expendable funds, as well as building and retaining a long-term pipeline of philanthropic support.


6. Evaluates programming, emerging digital technologies, dual ask, and other partnerships with gift officers, and strategies for leadership annual donors.


7. Partners with colleagues in Donor Experience to execute a solicitation and stewardship program for targeted constituencies, including but not limited to first-year donors, young alumni, and consecutive donors.


8. Supports the management of the University's annual giving calendar, ensuring that all solicitations are segmented, targeted, maintain key performance metrics, and delivered on time.


9. The leader will be aware of and conversant about best practices and benchmarking with peer institutions.


10. Develop a strong working partnership with the various development and alumni departments, including but not limited to Development Resources, Development Communications, Lifelong Engagement, Volunteer Leadership, Family Relations, and Student Organizations.


11. Regularly evaluate programming, emerging digital technologies, dual ask, and other partnerships with gift officers, as well as strategies for leadership annual donors.


12. Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience. Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.

  • Ability to establish department goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan.
