A Day in the Life
The User Experience and Human Factors Engineering (UX/HFE) team within the Neuromodulation operating unit is searching for a proven design leader to help us create intuitive patient- and clinician-facing applications in support of digital experience initiatives.
This is a critical role that will help shape the future of design within our Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS) and Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) product lines, and beyond. You will have the opportunity to perform truly meaningful work that directly impacts the lives of patients suffering from Parkinsons, epilepsy, dystonia, and chronic pain, as well as the lives of the clinicians that treat them.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:


  • Use human-centered design thinking to solve real-world problems facing patients and clinicians around the world

  • Contribute to cutting edge innovation in the areas of Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS) and Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS)

  • Partner with fellow designers, human factors engineers, researchers, and validation staff from early discovery to market launch, ensuring usability is built into our products and not an afterthought

  • Leverage research insights from multiple sources to create data-driven workflows and interface concepts we can iteratively test with users

  • Think strategically and help champion good design practices as a trusted architect and customer advocate

  • Counsel leadership on design proposals, risks, and tradeoffs from both holistic and task-based perspectives with a focus on building consensus

  • Maintain and mature our design system to ensure consistency and scalability across multiple product families

  • Provide guidance and coaching to junior UX talent

Must Have (Minimum Requirements)

  • Bachelor's degree required with a minimum of 7 years of UX Design experience

  • OR advance degree with a minimum of 5 years of UX Design experience

Nice to Have (Preferred Qualifications)


  • Advanced degree in design, HCI, or a closely related field

  • UX certification (e.g., UXMC, CUXP, CXA)

  • A design portfolio showcasing experiences you've crafted with an emphasis on the resulting outcomes

  • Expert-level proficiency working in Figma

  • Strong verbal/written communication skills and business acumen

  • Robust knowledge of medical device regulations and compliance (e.g., IEC 62366, EU MDR, ISO 13485)

  • Experience closely partnering with software development teams for web, mobile, and/or embedded applications

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$142,400.00 - $213,600.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).
