Career Coach Job Compensation:



  • PART TIME $22.50 Per Hour (Please note this role is part time working 20 hours per week and does not qualify for benefits).

Career Coach Job Responsibilities:

  • Work with other RCP staff to coordinate outreach and recruitment.
  • Track, maintain, and consolidate program data.
  • Gather and verify requisite participant data and documentation timely to determine RCP program eligibility; assess strengths, needs, and experience; and identify, as appropriate, meaningful opportunities to access supplemental services through partner programming.
  • Gather and verify requisite participant-level and program-wide data needed to complete reporting for U.S. Office of Refugee Resettlement as well as UMOS.
  • Conduct participant interviews and assessments to identify appropriate career pathway; determine how best to address participation/employment barriers through case management, career counseling, and appropriate program activities; and refer to internal and external resources that will aid in advancing the individual and/or family toward self-sufficiency.
  • Based on assessment results, jointly develop Career Development Plans with applicants/participants; identify goals toward education/employment; and assign the steps/activities to achieve those goals.
  • Establish, maintain, and document all participant contact, which should occur at least monthly, as relates to training and/or job retention activity; strengths, barriers, and progress; and viable education, training, and/or employment opportunities.
  • Respond timely to program/case monitoring reports to ensure compliance with RCP policies, procedures, and contractual obligations, and maintain a satisfactory level of compliance.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with other UMOS programs, educational institutions, and partner agencies to coordinate participant access to, and participation in, services, education, training, and other workforce development programs.
  • Interact appropriately and diplomatically with participants, responding to calls, emails, and other communications timely, immediately addressing needs, and motivating them throughout their participation in programming.
  • Establish, maintain, and update a case file for each participant enrolled in RCP.
  • Prepare for supervisory approval eligible participant-related payment requests.
  • Establish program-related subscriptions (e.g., Career.io) for participants, as appropriate.
  • Facilitate individual and group sessions in motivation, employment techniques, education, vocational counseling, and other topics, as may be needed.
  • Attend meetings, conferences, trainings, and workshops relevant to the implementation of RCP, and perform special projects and other related duties, as assigned.
  • Career Coach Job Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two years of post-secondary education. Bachelor degree preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of work experience in one or a combination of the following: case management, human/social services-related customer service, counseling, or workforce development. (Note: Additional years of post-secondary education in a relevant field can be substituted for one year of experience.)
  • Must be fluent in English and have mastery of at least one language prevalent among metro Milwaukee's refugee population, such as Burmese, Rohingya, Dari, Farsi, Hindi, Somali, etc. Candidates with a command of English and more than one refugee-relevant language preferred.
  • Experience as a refugee, preferred, but not mandatory, to ensure the employee understands the challenges being faced by those eligible to participate in RCP.
  • Must possess strong written and oral communication skills; the self-motivation as well as time management and planning skills to achieve individual and program-wide performance goals; and other organizational skills to ensure compliance with federal, program, and agency policies, procedures, and other guidelines.
  • Ability to work in a demanding, fast-paced environment and respond timely to participant needs with respect and diplomacy.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of, and experience in using, computer programs and applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Office 365), including Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.; experience with database systems; ability to enter data quickly with a high level of accuracy into electronic data systems with required timeframes.
  • Must have a car, valid driver license, and adequate automobile insurance; must be able to travel for grant-related trainings and workshops as well as participant home visits and visits to sites of educational/training institutions, employers, and other partners.
