POSITION SUMMARY:

The Department of Molecular Medicine seeks candidates for tenured or tenure-track positions who study infectious diseases, with a focus on molecular mechanistic studies of viral or bacterial pathogens and interaction with the host, with particular interest in the host immune system. The Morsani College of Medicine has strong core facilities to support structure based drug discovery, genomic and proteomic studies, advanced imaging, and access to clinical samples through collaboration, including joint appointments if appropriate, with our clinical departments. Successful candidates for these positions are expected to have already established or have the potential to develop a nationally recognized, competitively funded research program and participate in graduate/medical student education and mentoring. Successful candidates will be offered institutional salary support commensurate with experience and highly competitive start-up packages that promote success.

RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Will establish and/or maintain a nationally recognized research program funded by federal and private grants that leads to significant manuscripts in respected scientific journals.
  • Will be responsible for teaching in graduate (MS and PhD), medical (MD), and MD/PhD students. Will also be expected to mentor students and build a successful research team.
  • Will be expected to serve on department and college service committees as assigned. In addition, it should serve the scientific community by reviewing manuscripts and grants and participate in scientific societies.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM:


  • Doctoral degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service.
  • Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor.
  • For Associate/Full Professor - Normally will have produced creative work, professional writing or research in refereed and other professional journals, and be a recognized authority in the field of specialization.

PREFERRED:

  • Ph.D. in microbiology, molecular biology, or related field, with research experience evidenced by peer-reviewed publications and grant writing success. Preference will be given to candidates with interdisciplinary training, and a record of collaboration.
