The REMOTE Reading Specialist is responsible for supporting a campus culture that values reading foundations, literature and library etiquette, and increasing reader capacity to digest material from various formats so that it may be appropriately understood. The role increases students' exposure to multiple genres and presentation types and supports students' academic growth generally.

This is a full-time REMOTE position. Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week is required. Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction during workday, typically 9-5 (or 8-4) or as defined by the school.




ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties.


  • Support the development, coordination and execution of system-wide early learning opportunities and experiences that prepare children to become ready to learn to read, and increase reading ability;

  • Take a collaborative role in curating a collection of learning resources thatsupports the efforts of parents, caregivers, and early childhood educators in raising readers;

  • Schedule and provide community outreach where literacy skills can be impartedto children, parents, and early childhood educators;

  • Deliver high-quality early literacy programs, services and resources to all campuses;

  • Develop effective outreach to support literacy skill building and practices for children, parents, andeducators;

  • Provide input on the selection of books, materials and equipment needed forliteracy programs at the school;

  • Promote reading initiatives campus-wide;

  • Coordinate authors' visits and engagement activities;

  • Collect, maintains, and reports literacy program statistics and assists with year-end reports

  • Coordinate and deliver early learning programs that build student, parent, and teacher capacity for understanding and appreciation of literature;

  • Stay abreast of trends related to early literacy and early learning; Stays current on instructional and reference procedures, strategies, and technologies

  • Deliver user-centered instruction, both face-to-face and online;

  • Design, assess, and continuously improve instructional services and curricula;

  • Create, maintain, and assess print, video, and interactive online instructional materials;

  • Collaborate with faculty to integrate information literacy concepts into courses and live instruction;

  • Consult on copyright and intellectual property issues;

  • Contribute to fluency building initiatives, grades 3-12;

  • Effectively plan school library program to meet identified needs;

  • Serve as subject matter expert, and curriculum adviser to ensure that library services are involved in instructional programs of the campus opportunities for teachers on the availability and use of campus.




Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.



MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)



  • Ability to travel 20% of the time as needed to support state testing, professional development and school activities

  • Ability to clear required background check
