Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas has a new opportunity as part of our security team for our Wichita office. The security officer has the responsibility of protecting the property and employees of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas. The position requires prior training and experience in law enforcement.
The position will work Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in our Wichita, KS office.

The compensation range for this role is a good faith estimate, it is estimated based on what a successful candidate might be paid. All offers presented to candidates are carefully reviewed to ensure fair, equitable pay by offering competitive wages that align with the individual's skills, education, experience, and training. The range may vary above or below the stated amounts.
What you'll do
Prevent unauthorized personnel from entering the buildings or being on company property.
Verify the identification and eligibility of all personnel entering a BCBSKS building.
Escort unauthorized personnel out of the buildings and off company property.
Stand by if requested when an employee is involuntarily terminated.
Patrol parking lots to provide safety for employees, insured's, visitors and property.
Check company buildings and property after regular work hours for security and possible maintenance problems.
Enforce traffic regulations on company property.
As applicable, notify city authorities of security problems.
Assist emergency personnel (police, fire and ambulance).
Notify relief personnel of occurrences that require follow-up.
Escort employees to their vehicles as requested.
Notify appropriate personnel of incoming calls.
Notify appropriate maintenance department employees of heating/cooling/electrical issues.
Ticket vehicles that are improperly parked or do not have company issued parking sticker displayed in the rear window.
May be required to sit or stand for long periods, up to and including 100% of work shift.
May be required to physically restrain and/or pursue unauthorized individuals, using force when necessary.
May be required to work in inclement weather (i.e. severe weather, rain, snow, etc), extreme hot or cold, dusty, humid, slippery or windy conditions.
Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 30 lbs.
Must have ability to lift, bend, stoop, squat and run.
What you need
High school diploma or GED required. Criminal Justice degree preferred.
Previous law enforcement experience is required preferably within the past 36 months. Must be a graduate of a certified law enforcement academy.
Must maintain and show proficiency with a firearm annually for term of employment in accordance with current state law or must show proficiency within 6 months of employment. This will be accomplished through the employee's current agency, agency retired from, or a Blue Cross designated range master.
Must provide own firearm that is acceptable by the BCBSKS Security supervisor.
Ability to comprehend and operate a PC based security alarm system and surveillance camera system.
Strong computer skills in order to operate effectively with company systems and programs.
Certification in CPR is preferred. Employees hired into this position who are not certified will obtain certification through internal training.
Valid driver's license required.
