Job Description:

Reporting directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and serving as a member of the Provost's Academic Leadership Council, the Dean of the School of Graduate, Continuing, and Online Education (SGCO) holds primary responsibility for leading and advancing the SGCO's strategic vision. This includes identifying and developing innovative programs such as degrees, certificates, and professional development credentials, as well as enhancing existing offerings. The role requires extensive engagement with external stakeholders, including industry partners, state and local governments, and community organizations.

The Dean of SGCO represents Academic Affairs on various committees and collaborates with colleges, university offices, the State System, and external entities on matters related to financial management and academic planning. This position involves leadership of the Graduate Council, oversight of Graduate Assistantships, and close coordination with Graduate Admissions. Additionally, the Dean of SGCO explores and develops opportunities for continuing education, both credit and non-credit bearing, as well as degree completion programs.

In collaboration with College Deans, the Dean of SGCO ensures effective academic advising and scheduling for new and continuing graduate and continuing education students. The individual in this role exercises sound judgment and discretion on university matters and represents the university with internal and external constituencies, including industry partners, government agencies, accrediting bodies, and professional associations. A deep understanding of labor market analysis, program development, and academic budgeting is essential for success in this role.

Qualifications


Minimum


  • Doctorate from an accredited institution

  • At least five years of administrative experience in higher education

  • Proven ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with administrators, faculty, and staff

  • Strong commitment to fostering diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging

  • Experience designing and implementing innovative degree and non-degree programs, certificates, and credentials, including continuing education and distance learning

  • Leadership experience in graduate program administration

  • Expertise in building and managing relationships with academic and external partners

  • Successful completion of an on-campus interview, including a professional presentation


Preferred


  • Experience in implementing distance education curricula, including Competency Based Education (CBE)

  • Proven track record in developing innovative degree programs, certificates, and credentials

  • Experience cultivating partnerships with industry, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations

  • Background in creating and managing Continuing Education programs
