The Department of Mechanical & Materials Engineering (
http://mme.unl.edu) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The department is particularly interested in candidates whose research focuses on the design, modeling, dynamics, and control of robotic systems. Research thrusts may include, but are not limited to, human-robot interaction, mechanism design, soft robotics, micro-robotics, prosthetics, medical robotic systems, nonlinear dynamics/control, and other emerging areas related to robotics and autonomous systems. The successful candidate is expected to develop an externally funded research program in these emerging areas and demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching in both the undergraduate and graduate academic programs within the department, including a new robotics major.
The Department of Mechanical & Materials Engineering consists of approximately 32 tenured/tenure-track faculty, more than 700 undergraduate students, and 150 graduate students. Recent investments in the College of Engineering include a new $80M research building and a new $120M teaching and learning building. UNL supports an outstanding system of central facilities housing state-of-the-art instrumentation and computation capabilities within the Nebraska Center for Materials and Nanoscience (ncmn.unl.edu), the Nebraska Nanoengineering Core Research Facility (engineering.unl.edu/nercf), and the Holland Computing Center (hcc.unl.edu). Opportunities for collaborations across the University of Nebraska include the University of Nebraska Medical Center, the Nebraska Center for Energy Sciences Research, the National Strategic Research Institute (NSRI), the Center for Brain, Biology, and Behavior, the Nebraska Athletic Performance Laboratory, the Midwest Roadside Safety Facility, Innovation Campus, and other state- and federally-funded research centers and programs.
