Position Summary:

Senior HVAC Mechanics are responsible for providing installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC systems and equipment. Specific duties include but are not limited to:


  • Independently performs maintenance and repairs and assists lower-level employees, training them as needed.

  • Ensures preventive maintenance is performed as scheduled and is properly documented.

  • Oversees the energy management control systems (EMCS).

  • Utilizes the work order system for documentation and customer response cards.




Typical hours for this position are Monday through Friday 10:30am - 7:30pm
Conditions of Employment:



  • This position has been designated as essential to the operation of the department, will require reporting to work when the University is officially closed, and is subject to overtime.

  • Incumbents will be required to participate in the Facilities Management "on-call" program and duties will include on-call/standby on a rotating basis.

  • This is a non-exempt position, eligible to receive overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act. This position may be subject to overtime during high peak times, etc. as directed and approved by the supervisor.

  • This position requires that you maintain an active and valid driver's license.

Required Qualifications:



  • High School graduate or equivalent.

  • Several years of experience in HVAC maintenance (5+ years), repair, and installation including experience with pumps, motors & piping.

  • Experience with HVAC construction methods and codes.

  • Experience with troubleshooting, testing, diagnosing, and repairing HVAC equipment.

  • Experience in interpreting blueprints, shop drawings, and specifications.

  • Ability to climb ladders.

  • Good oral and written communication skills and the ability to deal effectively with supervisors, peers, and customers.

  • EPA Universal Refrigerant License.

  • Valid Driver's license and two years of driving experience.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Virginia HVAC Journeyman or Master's License.

  • Experience working with Building Automation Systems (BAS).

Advertised Pay Range:

Up to $57,000; commensurate with experience
