National Fellowship Advisor for Post Graduation Success



We seek a highly motivated and organized individual possessing an interest in better developing graduate and undergraduate students as they consider and pursue outstanding co-curricular and post-graduate opportunities. Our office collaborates with and complements the work of our faculty, staff, and alumni partners in the FHC and across the university, educating toward empowering students with the knowledge of the breadth of available resources and opportunities.

Devotes 50% effort to performing the primary responsibilities for all aspects of graduate competitive fellowships. In collaboration with the Office of the Provost, holds targeted workshops for graduate students to improve their scholarship, fellowship and grant application writing skills. Represents the office at Pitt’s graduate student orientation and other events that target the graduate student population. Serve as a reviewer for internal/limited submission fellowships such as the Provost’s Dissertation Completion Fellowship and Liebmann Fund Fellowship. Stays abreast of national and international opportunities and new developments open to Pitt students and alumni and conveys information about deadlines and procedures to the community. Effectively communicates with and supports students and recent alumni, from initial inquiries to application strategies, feedback on application materials, and interview support. Establishes mentoring relationships with graduate and undergraduate students, works effectively one-on-one with students of all backgrounds and identities. Maintains contact with fellowship alumni and faculty who review fellowship applications, and facilitates connections between current students, faculty and alumni. Manages application processes, including soliciting, uploading, and submitting materials to national review committees. Convenes committee meetings, selection interviews, and mock interview panels. Records webinars and mock interviews, produces and distributes informational materials. Maintains and updates application data. Interfaces with campus administrative offices as needed to support applicants.


Job Summary

Utilizes expert-level advising knowledge, theory, and experience to serve as an academic liaison for students to identify academic and career goals, select appropriate courses, and plan for degree attainment. Leads the facilitation and implementation of University-sponsored activities. Manages large, complex projects.


Essential Functions

The David C. Frederick Honors College Office of National Scholarships and Post-Graduation Success and the Office of the Provost – Graduate Studies at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking a fellowships advisor to join our world-leading team in supporting our most talented undergraduate and graduate students in competing for national fellowships. The David C. Frederick Honors College Office of National Fellowships is one of the most successful fellowships offices at any public research university: the University of Pittsburgh is a Top Fulbright Producer; and in the last five years students supported by this office have received over 300 awards, including Rhodes, Churchill, Mitchell, Marshall and Goldwater. The Office of the Provost - Graduate Studies serves over 9,000 graduate and professional students across 14 schools. Last year, approximately 250 graduate students were awarded external fellowships and traineeships. The successful candidate will become the primary fellowships advisor for prestigious awards geared towards graduate students (Mellon, Gilliam, NSF GRFP, Ford, etc.) across the University of Pittsburgh and collaborate with the Office of the Provost – Graduate Studies, team members, FHC staff and the broader Pitt faculty and staff in administering nomination and endorsement processes across campus for all students and recent alumni.
