Job Summary
Coordinate with researchers, PIs, and project leadership to organize, manage, store, archive and share data for the RIPE Project.
Duties & Responsibilities
Data analysis and reporting: Guide RIPE researchers in preparing data packages and sharing them with funders at agreed milestones, checking data packages, and facilitating data sharing with funders.
Data management policies: Creating and documenting data management policies, procedures, and protocols, including the data and information sharing policies of the project funders, and distributing these policies to all RIPE team members, including sub-award institutions.
Data systems: Managing and supervising RIPE's UIUC based data system(s) to ensure they are secure, organized, and stored properly.
Data storage: Assessing and updating RIPE's storage needs, including cloud storage, on-premises servers, or hybrid systems and identifying the data storage needs of the sub-award institutions and determining how they store their RIPE project data. Also, determine the storage needs and transfer of RIPE project data and research results when a team member leaves the project, and ensure all data is backed up appropriately.
Data education: Educating all RIPE team members on data management best practices and use of the RIPE data system(s), including advising on public data repository usage.
Data Organization: Ensure data is collected properly, stored properly, and organized, observing ethical standards.
Data security: Maintaining the confidentiality and security of all RIPE's project data, including encryption of the data as required.
Data collaboration: Collaborating with vendors for data-related tools, licenses and services.
Additional Physical Demands
Work will be performed in an office setting requiring regular computer usage.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in information science, computer science, biology, or related STEM field. Background in science, including a minimum of 1 year collecting, organizing, and/or managing large scientific datasets.
Preferred Qualifications
Three years of experience collecting, organizing, and/or managing large scientific datasets, experience in a data management role, experience working with data and project management software.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Excellent analytical skills: Ability to analyze, curate and organize large and numerous datasets.
Teamwork skills: Ability to inspire, instruct and guide researchers to adhere to data policies and work as part of the wider RIPE management team.
Attention to detail: Ability to review datasets and ensure all quality thresholds are met.
Ability to work independently to solve problems and troubleshoot.
Written and verbal communication skills: disseminate instructions, training and knowledge to RIPE researchers, directorate and management.
Experience working in a management role in a research environment.
Experience with Smartsheet, Sharepoint or other data management software.
Experience training and supervising researchers.
Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 1/27/2025. The budgeted salary range for this position is $45,000 to $55,000 per year. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
This position will be subject to annual performance reviews, continued availability of funds, compliance with university policy, and upholding IGB's commitment to providing an inclusive, diverse, and welcoming environment.
