SUMMARY & SCOPE: The Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily production activities within the company. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the efficient operation of machinery, coordinating the workflow of production employees, and meeting production targets while maintaining high safety and quality standards. The Production Supervisor ensures the smooth execution of production processes and fosters a productive and safe working environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversee and manage daily production activities, ensuring adherence to production schedules and output targets.
Monitor all stages of steel processing to ensure consistent product quality.
Lead, train, and supervise production workers, including assigning tasks, scheduling shifts, and addressing employee performance.
Ensure that all steel products meet quality standards and specifications through regular inspections and quality checks.
Identify opportunities for improving production efficiency and reducing waste through continuous process improvement initiatives.
Implement best practices and suggest improvements to production techniques to enhance productivity.
Collaborate with the maintenance team to address equipment malfunctions or breakdowns and minimize production downtime.
Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols, procedures, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Work closely with departments such as customer service, maintenance, and quality to ensure smooth production flow.
Communicate any delays, issues, or production concerns to upper management and collaborate to develop solutions.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS:
3 to 5 years of experience is required preferably in metals processing and distribution
High school diploma or equivalent is required; an associate or bachelor's degree in manufacturing, industrial engineering, or a related field is preferred.
Prior experience in a supervisory role within steel processing, manufacturing, or a similar industrial environment.
Understanding of steel processing techniques, including slitting, buffing, and polishing, as well as familiarity with steel grades and specifications.
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage and motivate a production team.
Analytical thinking and the ability to identify and resolve production-related issues quickly and effectively.
Proficiency in production tracking systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and other relevant software for reporting and scheduling.
EQUIPMENT KNOWLEDGE:
Computer skills (Word, Excel, AS400 preferred).
Knowledge of equipment / product is an asset.
Knowledge of crane and forklift operation, knowledge of measurement devices
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Standing for long periods of time.
Bending, stooping, and pushing
Ability to lift 50 lbs (22.7kg) maximum occasionally with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs (11.3kg).
