Position Overview
The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for maintaining diesel Trucks and equipment operations by completing inspections and preventive maintenance requirements, correcting vehicle deficiencies and adjustments. Completes all job duties while following all workplace safety rules.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
Troubleshoots problems, making economical and durable repairs.
Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts using hoists and hand tools.
Maintains and repairs heavy equipment, trucks, shop, and non-mobile equipment on a company-wide basis.
Services vehicles/equipment to include oil changes, greasing, adding fluids, changing filters and maintaining preventative maintenance schedules.
Troubleshoots and repairs electrical and hydraulic systems, diesel and gasoline engines, transmissions, drive trains, etc.
Orders parts and supplies through parts department.
Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.
Repairs or replaces defective parts. Installs special functional and structural parts in devices.
Starts and run or drive devices to test their performance.
Welds broken parts and structural members as necessary.
Maintains a clean and organized work area.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education/Experience
High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
1-3 years of experience with diesel trucks and/or various heavy equipment.
Experience working on ready-mix trucks and experience in the building materials/construction industry preferred.
Work Requirements
Must own tools.
Must be 18 years in age or older.
Must have a current and valid driver's license. CDL is a plus
Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.
Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
Must be proficient in use of a computer and ability to learn usage of a program to track the work orders.
Knowledge of Highway Trucks, Cement Mixers, Construction equipment preferred.
Knowledge of equipment and tools, including uses, repair and maintenance.
Physical Requirements
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Frequently required to sit, climb, and use hands to signal and handle equipment.
Regularly required to stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms above their shoulders.
Frequently lifting and/or carrying of objects up to 50 lbs.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions; and extreme cold and/or heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
