Job Description:



The Administrator Coordinator is responsible for providing administrative and financial support to the Assistant Project Director and Faculty Director for the African Poetry Book Fund (APBF), implementing academic and university mandates in order to achieve the APBF's goals and maintain its excellent international scholarly and global reputation.


The incumbent will work closely with the Faculty Director and Assistant Project Director wand ill manage various administrative and general operations tasks, including but not limited to administrative support, financial reimbursements, meeting arrangements, schedule coordination, follow-up communications, and social media/website updates, etc...This position will also assist in managing submissions to APBF contests and to the African Poetry Book Series, New-Generation African Poets Series, and the Calabash Caribbean Poetry Book Series. This position can also be relied upon to research, compile, and report on independent projects to effectively support the objectives of the APBF Project.


It is preferable that the incumbent have strong cross-cultural communication skills and an interest in the APBF's interdisciplinary and international work.



This position is fixed-term, 11 months, 20 hours per week, and renewable every 3 years, depending on the funding source.




This is a hybrid-eligible position based on the department's requirements.




Education and Experience:



  • Bachelor's degree with at least 2 years of administrative experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience in working with an international cohort of collaborators, especially African and Caribbean authors and publishers, is strongly preferred.

  • Excellent organizational, administrative, and time management skills.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Initiative and judgment to independently problem solve and prioritize while maintaining careful attention to detail.

  • Previous experience working with highly sensitive and confidential material.

  • Ability to research, analyze, and summarize information.

  • Confident public relations and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize workload.

  • Highly proficient skills and continued interest in maintaining skills: Computer proficiency of Microsoft Suite or Google applications, familiarity with web design, and virtual meeting applications.

  • Demonstrated ability to support a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment.
