The overall purpose of this position is to develop branding and design solutions for use on the Computer Society webpage and throughout all Computer Society collateral and graphical projects to ensure a positive user experience, establish strong identity for our products and services, and remain in sync with IEEE corporate style requirements. The incumbent in this position is primarily responsible for website, graphic design, branding, and user experience.
The role typically reports to the Director of Sales and Marketing. The incumbent establishes and follows workflows and creates efficient alternatives as needed. With minimal direct supervision, individual uses documented specifications, procedures, tracking sheets, and schedules as primary resources, turning to other staff as needed. With oversight of the Director of Sales and Marketing, individual must be able to communicate goals and expectations to management, staff, and external vendors. This position has no authority for expenditures or document signing.
Key Responsibilities
Designs and creates web pages and assets to implement and promote the Computer Society’s sales and marketing strategies.
Stays current with high tech production, and maintains evolving knowledge of industry standards and developing technology in print, web, publishing and content management
Develop online assets to create consistent, professional messaging in support of promotional campaigns;
Implements and oversees aspects of production and postproduction activities for website and multimedia products, ensuring quality control and efficiency while maintaining overlapping deadlines and helping to define and refine workflows as appropriate;
Develops, documents, and helps enforce style consistency within and across design projects, including ensuring proper alignment with official IEEE and Computer Society policies;
Working with Manager and brand to protect brand identity guidelines in creative collateral through day-to-day project management, raising issues or potential enhancements as necessary. Building brand into each process will be a key task for this individual.
Closely align with internal clients to provide top-notch customer service, set expectations on day-to-day workflow, and gain visibility into potential campaigns for resource forecasts
Studies workflow processes and recommend improvements, as appropriate, for collaborating with vendors, staff, and volunteers;
Creates graphics for use in videos, websites, blogs, and social media sites. As needed, develops other collateral materials. Assists in identifying, vetting, training and managing external graphic artists.
Coordinating and managing appropriate project resources;
Works with multi-departmental teams to accomplish strategic outcomes, and support promotional campaigns;
Guide team through development of design strategies and plans for print, electronic and web based media
Implements design strategies and plans for print, electronic and web based media
Ensures active projects are in process, keeps phases/tasks on track and on time, and proactively sets necessary milestones
Coordinating and managing appropriate project resources;
Acting as point person for all questions/issues regarding project workflow, deliverables, time tracking and billing;
In partnership with the department’s vendor manager, coordinates all outside vendor creative work – including communicating art direction, scheduling, quality control and billing
Additional Responsibilities
As needed, train staff and relevant groups in production processes. Documents procedures and guidelines and creates and updates training materials;
Chooses, schedules, and oversees production artists as needed.
Researches applications and technologies to support projects and workflows, as assigned;
Education
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience specialized training in graphic design and periodical production Req
Specialized training in web page development and multimedia editing Pref
Work Experience
4-7 years Experience with the Web environment, including a solid knowledge of Web authoring and publishing tools Req
4-7 years Relevant experience in graphic design and traditional and digital publishing Req
Skills and Requirements
Must be able to quickly conceive and create attractive, user-centric designs, layouts, and web pages that meet high editorial and technical standards while supporting CS business goals and volunteer needs.
Must exhibit mastery of graphic design and prepress, desktop publishing, and post-production applications, including the Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, Bridge, Distiller), other file-format-manipulation programs (graphics, file compression, etc.) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
Excellent Mac and PC skills required.
Deep knowledge and strong command of typography, design, layout, production, and printing.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Proficient at project management and problem solving.
Familiarity with audio and video editing tools (e.g., Adobe Premier, Audition) and social networking applications strongly desired.
