JOB TITLE: Visiting Scholar
JOB DESCRIPTION: University of Pittsburgh is looking for a visiting scholar. The position will be responsible for participating in seminars, professional development opportunities, manuscript preparation, and publication and presentation at scientific meetings. To ensure the candidate's successful advancement, feedback,k and performance evaluations will be provided to assist with progress. The candidate will perform services within the Department of Pathology studying various issues related to the transplantation of liver cells, differentiation of induced pluripotent stem cells into hepatocytes, hepatic maturation of hepatic progenitors derived from human induced pluripotent stem cells using gene editing, cellular and acellular components of the liver and organ cultures, and the engraftment and proliferative capacity of different cell populations in the treatment of liver-based metabolic disorders and liver failure in rodents. The candidate will be responsible for other assignments related to scientific development (e.g., writing manuscripts, reviews and supervising/teaching other fellows.
JOB DUTIES:
A visiting scholar position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Alejandro Soto-Gutierrez in the Department of Pathology, Division of Experimental Pathology. The lab studies transcriptional reprogramming of human terminal liver failure and designs models to understand the disease using human pluripotent stem cells, gene editing, cellular and acellular components of the liver, and organ cultures. Available projects focus on deciphering the molecular mechanisms of hepatocyte-specific nuclear Factors in human hepatocytes from cirrhotic livers due to NASH or alcohol cirrhosis and understanding genetic variants in the development of liver failure. Applicants are expected to have profound training in molecular biology, particularly RNA-Protein related methodologies.
