Your Role



You are responsible for the upkeep of manufacturing and facilities systems and driving operational excellence through technology selection. You will be responsible for providing and employing engineering expertise in your area of education (mechanical, electrical, chemical, software, etc.) and others as experience allows. You should be able to lead or assign technical resources in multiple projects while also able to prioritize tasks as the business need dictates. Provide support, mentoring, coaching and supervision to technical staff. Provides technical support for other departments in the form of training, system design or process improvement. Performs duties at an elevated degree of professionalism, independence and sense of ownership with respect, integrity and transparency.




  • Support other oligonucleotide manufacturing sites in their maintenance endeavors (Rework).

  • Execute complex and difficult engineering design and development tasks with excellence as needed in collaboration with existing technical resources.

  • Be able to plan complex and difficult engineering design and development tasks accurately, clearly conveying completion dates and priorities.

  • Proactively provide technical leadership to the engineering and maintenance staff, technical expertise for the advancement of company's core technologies.

  • Administer work order tracking and assignments through available electronic systems/tools (Project Management Software, CMMS, etc.)

  • Source and procure necessary services, material, and equipment to support major projects and initiatives.

  • Employ best practices in designs, projects, and processes for which you have responsibility or knowledge to improve safety, ease-of-use, and/or efficiency.

  • Work closely with the management team to set direction and expectations, clearly defining what is possible and by when

  • Takes the time and effort to document designs and processes so they are readily recreated. Use documentation to convey system use and function clearly.

  • Expected to adhere to and champion the company's change and configuration management processes and ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 13485 quality procedures.


Essential Job Functions



  • Managing the Engineering and Maintenance teams in a way that promotes collaboration and leads to engagement.

  • Organizing and leading operational excellence activities at The Woodlands site

  • Pursuing, developing, and exploiting technologies to improve the manufacture of oligonucleotides

  • Supporting the management of the site's capital budget

  • Managing department budgets

  • Managing The Woodlands preventative maintenance program for instrumentation and facilities needs, adhering to current ISO9001 and ISO13485 standards

  • Managing the fleet of manufacturing equipment at The Woodlands site

  • Remote troubleshooting of manufacturing issues at global manufacturing sites

  • Filling in for team members during absences




Safety and Quality Responsibilities



The engineering team is responsible for designing and deploying robust manufacturing equipment and processes to the global oligo manufacturing organization. This is accomplished through well considered and holistic design involving multiple disciplines.

Who You Are




Minimum Qualifications:



  • Required - Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, or Industrial Engineering from ABET accredited institution, or higher

  • Experience - Minimum of 5 years within Manufacturing Maintenance and/or Engineering and a minimum of 3 years in a supervision/leadership role




Preferred Qualifications:



  • Effective leadership and collaboration

  • Effective communicator - oral and written

  • Requires strong analytical & mathematical skills needed for analysis of system performance & component selection.

  • Strong aptitude for mechanical systems.

  • Knowledge in motion related instrumentations, for example: servo motors, stepper motors, commutators, encoders (linear, rotary), tachometers, servo amplifiers, stepper amplifiers, motion control boards, feedback sensors, vision cameras, centering cameras, bearings.

  • Adept programmer - Visual Studio .Net (Windows), PLC and motor controllers (IEC 61131-3 languages), C#, SQL, JavaScript, XML, HTML.

  • Knowledge of electrical and electronics system design including schematics, wiring diagrams and PCB design.

  • Computer literacy - Microsoft office, CMMS, ERP platforms (SAP).

  • Understands mechanical and electrical safety principles and hazardous energy sources.

  • Excellent knowledge of automation systems including liquid handlers, PLC and MicroController based systems.

  • Basic knowledge of statistical methods including least squares regression and t-testing.


Environmental conditions



Work environment contains flammable solvents, carcinogens, and corrosives. Requirement to wear all personal equipment as directed by procedure (gloves, lab coat, safety glasses, possibly face shield).



Physical requirements



  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs
