This Project Director / Supervisor plays a key role in the Division, managing a team and overseeing business-critical activities such as events, travel, and business operations. Additionally, this individual completes complex analysis and special projects for Division senior leadership.

The Minneapolis Fed’s Research Division has a long history of producing top-tier academic and policy research on a wide range of issues related to the mission of the Federal Reserve System.  First and foremost, the Research Division prepares analysis in support of the Bank President’s participation in Federal Open Market Committee meetings and other public engagements.  In addition, staff engage in academic research related to strategic Bank initiatives, including monetary policy, banking regulation, debt crises, inequality, education, and minimum wage, among others.  For more than 50 years, the Division has had a strong partnership with the University of Minnesota.  More than 100 research and policy economists, research analysts and assistants, local and national research consultants, visiting scholars from around the world, and a highly trained professional staff comprise the Research Division. The Division is seeking a Project Director / Supervisor in the Research Division’s Support function. This individual plays a key role in the Division, managing a team and overseeing business-critical activities such as events, travel, and business operations.  Additionally, the Project Director / Supervisor completes complex analysis and special projects for Division senior leadership.  To be successful in this role, an individual must demonstrate strong ability to collaborate and lead across departments and institutions towards common goals; excellent planning, analysis, and critical thinking skills; ability to identify and implement process improvements; and excellent customer service skills.  This position reports to the Assistant Vice President of Research Administration.

Responsibilities:


  • Develops, motivates, and evaluates performance of staff, which includes supervising staff to identify developmental assignments and training opportunities, working with individuals on their career goals, delegating responsibilities, providing timely feedback and evaluating performance on any of the preceding duties.

  • Oversees all aspects of highly complex projects and initiatives to support the creation and dissemination of economic research at the Division, Bank, and/or FRS level; frequently interacts across Bank divisions and with external organizations such as academic institutions and other central banks to ensure successful and timely completion of projects and adherence to quality standards.

  • Directs, in varying capacities, the efforts of project teams and staff to identify, evaluate, recommend, develop, test, and provide training for new policies, procedures, automation systems and/or products. May also lead implementation of solutions.

  • Serves as highest level project consultant and/or analytic support to senior leaders.

  • Plans and prioritizes objectives, initiatives, and resources; budgets and monitors financial and operational performance; makes recommendations and decisions regarding policies, standards, staffing, systems, and equipment, etc.; prepares reports, proposals, position papers, strategic plans, and other documentation for senior management review in support of proposed solutions and recommendations.

  • Analyzes and evaluates business needs; assesses the risks involved and expected benefits; and recommends technical, procedural, and/or policy solutions.

  • Participates in and may lead Bank and System task forces and work groups and assumes leadership roles in special projects and programs of significant business impact.  Manages communications, facilitates meetings and conference calls, and coordinates work activities.

  • Maintains a high level of knowledge of technical, operational, compliance and policy issues relating to economic research support and provides a high-level of application and operational expertise.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required


  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 6 years of project management experience.

  • Understanding of academic research processes and lifecycle and the ability to complete analysis in support of these activities.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and advanced proficiency using standard business applications and software.

  • Strong ability to conceptualize, plan, develop, and coordinate large scale, complex, projects and manage multiple operations.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead individuals or teams, with or without formal authority.

  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills.  Ability to quickly adapt in response to changing information and manage ambiguity.

Preferred


  • Master's degree or project management certification strongly preferred.

  • Work experience in an academic department, library, data center, think tank, or other research-focused setting strongly preferred.

  • Familiarity with technical and business platforms including Amazon Web Services, Ariba, Concur, ServiceNow, and/or Workday.

  • Professional experience managing all aspects of programs, conferences, or events.

This position requires access to confidential supervisory information (CSI) and/or Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) information.  Access to CSI and FOMC information is limited to U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, individuals who meet the definition of “protected individual” under 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3), and certain other nonimmigrants.  Candidates who are not U.S. citizens must sign a declaration of intent to expeditiously become a U.S. citizen when eligible. *We are not able to hire anyone that would require sponsorship now or at any point in the future.

Salary & Benefits:

Salary range is $112,300 - $140,326 - $168,400

Salary offer will be based on qualifications/experience of the candidate, alignment with market data, the needs of the position, our total compensation package, and internal equity.
