Overview
The Weld Shop Associate will safely operate various machines and equipment involved in all areas of production. Will be cross-trained to operate multiple machines in multiple functions. Must be able to perform each of these functions in a safe manner that ensures the production of a quality product in compliance with all quality and production standard operating procedures and requirements.
Responsibilities
• Participate in cross-training as necessary to learn to operate production machinery in accordance with specifications. Assigned machines may include welders, grinders, cutters, and similar equipment.
• Set up equipment and make adjustments to equipment as necessary to produce quality product and meet established production metrics.
• Perform in-process quality checks; visually inspect work done in previous operations before continuing to perform further operations.
• Perform basic tests to ensure that all finished product conforms to product specifications.
• Immediately stop performing any process that is producing non-conforming product and inform a member of management.
• Perform picking, shipping and receiving functions including packing finished products, filling coil orders and UPS processing.
• Perform inventory control functions including stock transfers, refills, cycle counting, etc.
• Maintain a clean and safe environment including keeping cutting and welding equipment in good working condition.
• Perform all other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Prior machine experience preferred, but not required
• Ability to read, comprehend and follow both written and verbal instructions
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to interpret written orders, instructions, procedures, etc.
• Basic math aptitude including ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, work with decimals and fractions and read a tape measure
• Mechanically inclined and quality oriented
• Knowledge of and ability to work with precision measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers; metrology certification a plus
• Ability to stand, twist, turn, reach and bend
• Frequently required to walk and stand for long periods of time, and to reach with hands and arms; occasionally required to sit
• Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
• Must be dependable and willing to work overtime and adjust schedule as necessary to meet business needs
