The Life Alliance Organ Recovery Agency https://www.laora.org/ at the University of Miami is currently seeking a full time Donor Management Coordinator 1. The Donor Management Coordinator (DMC) is responsible for coordinating the care and management of organ donors from the time of consent until organ recovery. The role involves collaborating with healthcare professionals, donor hospitals, transplant teams, and organ procurement organizations to ensure the optimization of donor organ viability, logistics, and regulatory compliance. DMCs are key contributors to saving lives through successful organ donation.



CORE JOB FUNCTIONS:



  • Responds to potential donor referrals in all Donor Service Area Hospitals within the confines of: Dade, Monroe, Broward, Collier, Palm Beach, St. Lucie counties and the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. (Over 90 hospitals).


  • Oversee the clinical management of organ donors, including hemodynamic stability, organ function optimization, and pharmacologic interventions.


  • Develop individualized plans for donor care based on best practices, collaborating with ICU teams and medical professionals.


  • Conduct regular assessments of the donor's clinical status and provide updates to transplant surgeons and OPO teams.


  • Administer medications and treatments necessary to maintain organ viability, such as vasopressors and fluids. Evaluates donation suitability based on information collected from the patient's hospital chart, current health status, dialogue with hospital staff, and physical examination.


  • Performs an independent assessment of potential donors to ensure donor meets medical criteria for donation.


  • Formulates donor maintenance plan to preserve transplantable organs, based on available clinical knowledge.


  • Reports clinical information that may be relevant to donation process.


  • Ensures organs for transplantation are appropriately preserved and that consent is obtained in accordance with donor management protocols and Florida statutes.


  • Checks with medical examiner's office for potential tissue donors and performs the necessary screening to ensure quality tissue for transplant.


  • Takes calls from the donor referral hotline and evaluates potential donors.


  • Conducts educational programs for the community and healthcare professionals to raise public awareness of the need for organ and tissue donors.


  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.





CORE QUALIFICATIONS



Education:



  • AA in health services or related field preferred





Certification and Licensing:



  • Certified Procurement Transplant Coordination -CPT - Certification within 2 years





Experience:



  • Minimum of two years of emergency or critical care experience in a healthcare setting or hospital preferred.


  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.





Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:



  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.


  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.


  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.


  • Ability to cope with high levels of stress and handle a heavy workload.


  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
