Job Description:

Hays is working with a Civil General Contractor on Long Island who is looking to bring on a Chief Estimator. The company works on MTA, DDC, and DOT projects ranging in value from 5 million dollars to 100 million dollars. Their current Chief Estimator is going to retire and they would like to have someone come in and run the estimating team. They offer good medical/vision/dental benefits, standard PTO and a base salary range of $225,000 - $275,000. This opportunity won't be available long, so reach out right away!


Key Responsibilities:




  • Lead and Manage Estimating Team: Assign responsibilities and oversee the work of the estimating team to ensure accurate and timely estimates.

  • Project Review: Analyze project plans, specifications, and other documents to develop comprehensive cost estimates.

  • Risk Assessment: Identify and evaluate potential risks and their impact on project costs.

  • Subcontractor Coordination: Solicit and review bids from subcontractors and suppliers to ensure competitive pricing.

  • Budget Preparation: Develop detailed budgets and cost forecasts for projects, including conceptual budgets based on minimal information.

  • Bid Preparation: Prepare bid packages, including instructions to bidders, bid forms, and other solicitation documents.

  • Cost Analysis: Maintain and update data on construction and material cost trends, and analyze alternative methods to determine the most cost-effective solutions.

  • Client Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, design teams, subcontractors, and suppliers.

  • Compliance: Ensure all estimates comply with company standards and client requirements.

  • Training and Development: Mentor and train junior estimators to enhance their skills and knowledge.



Qualifications:




  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.

  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in construction estimating, with at least 3 years in a management role.

  • Skills: Strong leadership and management skills, excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, thorough knowledge of construction materials, methods, and processes, and proficiency in reading and interpreting construction plans and specifications.

  • Technical Proficiency: Experience with estimating software and tools, and a solid understanding of cost estimating principles and practices.
