As an Employee Relations Specialist you will manage the company's relationship with its employees. The Employee Relations Specialist works in conjunction with and supports the Human Resources department. In an ongoing capacity, you will act as a liaison between employer and employee by receiving and effectively handling employee complaints, escalating these complaints to the level of disciplinary or legal action when necessary, advising supervisors on treatment of staff and company policies, respond to employee violations of policy and generally help to resolve conflict in the workplace. The Employee Relations Specialist will also assist in guiding supervisors through the performance management process and addressing behaviorial or performance concerns. This is a REMOTE position, which may require quarterly travel to the Maitland, FL office if local.

Responsibilities:


  • Manages employee relations calls from the field under the supervision of Human Resources. Interpret and explain policies and regulations in response to such calls or inquiries as needed.
  • Thoroughly investigate workplace complaints relating to claims of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, hostile work environment, and policy violations. Offer recommendations for the resolution of employee relations issues and provide follow up response to such complaints.
  • Complete intake calls, investigations, witness interviews. Provide an investigation report will all relevant details and documentation to include investigative findings and provide recommended actions in line with Tetra Tech policies and other legal requirements.
  • Ensure the investigations are properly prioritized and completed in a timely and efficient manner (as defined by department goals)
  • Review Investigative findings and recommendations with supervisors and managers and advise on how to properly implement recommendations.
  • Provide coaching and consulting to managers in order to enhance their people and performance management skills. Assist management in a step by step basis with the disciplinary process and formulation of performance improvement plans.
  • Monitor and track documents used to evaluate, correct, and enhance job performance and other workplace behaviors, assuring overall fairness and consistency, and meeting business requirements.
  • Advises employees and management on the interpretation of personnel policies, programs and procedures of the company and facilitate resolution of employee relations issues.
  • Assesses training needs and facilitate training as necessary.
  • Conducts exit interviews with departing employees, analyzing opportunities for feedback or improvement particularly in areas related to employee engagement.
  • Conduct 30 day check ins with employees.
  • Provide training to temporary HR staff during activations related to call center operations for HR complaints and additional training that may be required
  • Provides administrative support to Human Resources in connection with new hire orientation, training compliance and other duties as assigned.
  • Provide back-up support for HR and leave administration to include monitoring the HR mailbox, rate changes, employee profile setup/changes, providing policy information and forms needed for employee leave, and other administrative duties as needed.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as required.

Qualifications:


  • 3+ years of experience in human resources or employee relations with at least 2 years of experience directly managing complex employee relations matters and investigations.
  • Demonstrates solid judgment and experience assessing risk relative to the business
  • Effective communication and critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrated experience learning and thriving in a constantly changing environment and to cultivate relationships across teams
  • Experience using data to identify insights that drive action
  • Thorough knowledge of and ability to apply current federal, state, and local laws relating to employment matters, including regulations or guidance issued by the Department of Labor, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, or other similar agencies.
  • Well-developed communication skills with the ability to interface with multiple levels of operations personnel and administrative staff are required
  • Outstanding customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Reliable, highly organized, and motivated
  • Must excel in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment while maintaining focus and balancing priorities
  • Excellent attention to detail is essential to this position
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to receive and execute instructions
  • Self-motivated, organized, and detail-oriented
  • Flexible and, able to immediately adapt to changing priorities
  • Must be available as needed during disaster activations if required; must be available to work BOTH weekend days when project needs necessitate weekend work
  • Ability to multi-task and work under pressure to meet strict deadlines
  • Ability to organize files efficiently
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office (email, word, excel, teams, etc)
  • Abilities to use technology to communicate efficiently
  • Work attentively with minimal supervision
  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university (preferred)
