Location: Buffalo, New York
Purpose: The SEC Reporting Analyst is responsible for the preparation of financial schedules and disclosures that support the Company’s external financial reporting requirements, primarily of the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC). This position is also responsible for research of applicable accounting and reporting disclosures requirements to adhere to appropriate accounting policies, procedures and disclosures in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The position also performs operational support duties within the Accounting and Finance Departments.
Essential Functions:
• Prepare annual, quarterly, and other reports filed with the SEC including: 10-Q/K, Schedule 14A “Proxy”, 11-K, Section 16 Forms (Forms 3, 4 & 5) and 8-Ks (as needed), along with earnings release and investor presentations for Financial Institutions, Inc. (NYSE: FISI).
• Prepare annual audited financial statements and quarterly reviewed financial statements, ensuring compliance with SEC reporting requirements and GAAP, including preparation of disclosure checklists.
• Prepare and review detailed documentation and workpapers to support financial statement and SEC required disclosures, as well as performing tie outs of all internal support and external reports.
• Research accounting and reporting requirements to ensure compliance with accounting policies, procedures and disclosures in accordance with US GAAP. Track, read and interpret accounting and SEC updates to ensure timely and accurate implementation.
• Plan and maintain detailed support request timeline for our financial statements and external filings.
• Maintain the system of internal controls established via accounting policies and procedures.
• Collaborate with accounting, legal, financial planning and analysis, treasury, human resources and external relations departments and other personnel as needed in completing reporting disclosures, accounting research, and other tasks.
• Maintain stock-based compensation plan accounting records including grants, exercises, vesting, forfeitures and expirations using appropriate third-party software. Prepare monthly general ledger entries to record expense and assist with the annual budget process.

Job Related Qualifications:
Required:
• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business-related field required; Master’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business-related field preferred
• Prior Experience: 3+ Years Public Accounting, Auditing, Accounting or Finance experience in a Banking; Experience with SEC public company preferred
• Licenses or Accreditation: Certified Public Accountant

• Possess knowledge and understanding of financial, regulatory and audit key concepts/standards (GAAP and SEC reporting requirements and financial statements), including areas such as loans, derivatives, revenue recognition, goodwill and fair value.

• Ability to function well in a high-paced, time-sensitive environment with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet established deadlines.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact positively and professionally with all levels of staff, management and external parties.
• Understanding of internal control, audit methods, core business procedures, risks and related exposure.
• Ability to maintain large amounts of data using appropriate technology, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of information, calculations and outputs.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret data and present it in a meaningful and easily understood form.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office with the ability to learn and utilize new existing banking, accounting and reporting software applications and XBRL.
