Job Description:

The Department of Art and Design at Binghamton University (SUNY) invites applications for a full-time lecturer position for an initial term of up to three years, with the possibility of renewal beyond the first term. The lecturer will teach a 3/3 load of undergraduate courses in graphic design.

We seek applicants who are proficient in typography, graphic design history, and methodology. Candidates should have a fluency in Mac OS, Adobe CC, and other industry-standard design software. Shared supervision and management of graphic design studios and facilities is expected. The ideal candidate will become an integral part of a dynamic program that places a strong emphasis on both conceptual and technical aspects of design, with a particular emphasis on core methodologies and typography. This role involves educating a diverse array of students across various disciplines, providing them with foundational knowledge in graphic design, including an introduction to the field through basic courses and an exploration of its historical context.

We seek educators who demonstrate innovative approaches to pedagogy and a commitment to inclusiveness and social concerns within the learning environment. The Department of Art and Design recognizes that the field of graphic design does not reflect the diversity of the population that it serves. We invite applications from colleagues who share in our commitment to a more inclusive discipline through their work and who will contribute in meaningful ways to the diversity and intercultural goals of the School and the University.

The Department of Art and Design is a robust program offering BA and BFA degrees, serving more than 160 majors. Incoming faculty will join us at an exciting moment in the continuing growth of our program, as part of the new School of the Arts which brings together the departments of Art and Design, Art History, Cinema, Music and Theatre.
