Position Summary The New Student Programs (NSP) Coordinator is responsible for planning and implementing group visits for high schools, community colleges and/or community organizations that would like to bring prospective students to visit Portland State University. These programs are designed to introduce students to the exciting opportunities Portland State has to offer and build relationships with community partners. This position will work closely with the Associate Director of New Student Programs, the other NSP Coordinators for visits and for orientation, students and other campus stakeholders to create engaging and meaningful campus visits for groups that will help to support enrollment efforts among first generation college students in the Portland and Oregon region. The Coordinator will contribute to a campus environment that acknowledges, encourages and celebrates differences. This position will function and communicate effectively and respectfully within the context of varying beliefs, behaviors, orientations, identities and cultural backgrounds.
The NSP Coordinator is responsible for development, preparation and facilitation of groups visiting PSU including communications, visit logistics and relationships management with external and internal partners. Logistics include reserving rooms, scheduling stakeholder participation, student panels, arranging lunch, program development and staffing.
The Coordinator will also assist with overseeing the student workers on the NSP teams including hiring, training, and professional development.This is a renewable, full time, fixed term, 12-month academic professional appointment.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree
  • One year of related experience in higher education admissions, academic advising, Community organization or high school counseling
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal presentation, and organizational skills.
  • Energetic approach and friendly, customer-service orientation.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact cooperatively and sensitively with individuals from other cultures, ethnic groups, lifestyles and backgrounds.
  • Effectively manage solve problems during programs and events
  • Demonstrated computer skills including proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite, Google applications;
  • Ability to handle multiple demands, priorities and/or deadlines simultaneously, and to work independently and with significant autonomy.
  • Ability to exercise a high level of independent thinking, creativity, and innovation.
  • Ability to interact and communicate successfully with University administrators, deans, faculty, staff, and the public.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced, high volume office;
  • Ability to work well with others in collaborative environment;
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous work with a community organization focusing on access to higher education and/or;
  • 3+ years of related experience in program coordination and/or;
  • Masters degree in Student Affairs, student learning development or similar degree program

Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement Salary is dependent on several factors, and new employees will typically start around the Q1 level to allow for later growth within the salary band. PSU has a structured process for determining starting compensation, taking into account years of related experience, applicable skills, knowledge and abilities, market parity, and internal equity.

The starting annual salary for this position will be $51,984-$53,000.
