At Eglin Air Force Base, SA-TECH provides Range support services including Marine Operations O&M, O&M and engineering support for all remote-controlled Foreign Military Equipment (FME) land targets and sea targets, as well as O&M for Electronic Warfare (EW) systems and associated range instrumentation systems. We also provide Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDT&E) as well as management oversight, design, integration, installation and pre- and post-test operations. SA-TECH conducts concurrent land operations on Eglin Test and Training Range and seaborne operations in the Eglin Gulf Test and Training Range (EGTTR), plus deployed training missions outside of ECTTR along the Texas coastline and in the Key West, FL vicinity, keeping EW, communication and instrumentation systems, and land and marine targets and support vessels operational to meet a demanding mission operations tempo.
We are currently seeking a certified Mercury Technician to serve as an Outboard Engine Mechanic (Machinery Maintenance Mechanic, Marine Environment) at our Eglin AFB location to maintain outboard engines, machinery, and other mechanical equipment.
Must be able to perform work with limited supervision. Typical duties include (and other duties may be added as needed):
Work involves most of the following Marine type of machines: examining machines such as outboard engines and mechanical equipment to diagnose source of trouble, dismantling or partly dismantling machines and performing repairs that mainly involve the use of hand tools in scraping and fitting parts.
Responsibilities include replacing broken or defective parts with items obtained from stock, and ordering the production of a replacement part by contacting a machine shop or sending the machine to a machine shop for major repairs.
Duties also include preparing written specifications for major repairs or for the production of parts ordered from machine shops, reassembling machines and making all necessary adjustments for operation.
The work of a Machinery Maintenance Mechanic requires rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience, with an emphasis on Mercury outboards so Mercury certification is ideal.
Other functions require routine preventive maintenance on a scheduled basis and during the process may be required to make adjustments for maximum efficiency of operation.
Required to perform general housekeeping and other job-related tasks.
May be required to work with hazardous material and/or collect hazardous waste.
Work Conditions:
Duties are performed both indoors and outdoors.
Outdoor duties may be performed on shore and afloat on even or uneven surfaces, which may be dry or wet.
Serves as a crew member on various size vessels on a weekly basis dependent upon schedule of operations.
Requires the ability to work in a seaborne environment.
Ability to travel to remote working locations is required and routine deployments on support and target vessels is expected within the continental US.
Requires some shift work with occasional over-night assignments, off-hours to include late nights, early mornings, as well as temporary duty for several days at sea.
Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
Work schedule varies and is directed by the requirements on contract and approved by the department manager.
Requirements:
Education/Experience/Skills:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Possess an outboard engine maintenance certification with formal training acquired through vocational or military service school training or a certified apprenticeship program.
Mercury certification is highly desired.
Training in the following areas: Outboard engine repair, inboard/outboard boat motor and diesel engines, maintenance, corrosion control, painting, metal fabrication or welding is highly desirable in addition to at least six months of practical experience.
Offshore experience is a must.
Will be required to attend and pass a Coast Guard safe boating certification course at company expense.
Must be very familiar with safe and proper use of hand tools, nautical terms and basic seamanship skills is a plus.
Current Driver's License required; must be able to be insured through company's vehicle insurance policy while driving work/government/rental vehicles during working hours, and for the duration of employment.
U.S. Citizenship required and you must be able to obtain a U.S. DoD Secret Security Clearance prior to hire date and maintain a Secret clearance throughout employment.
All candidates will be required to pass background screening to include SSN, Driver Record, and Criminal Background Investigation.
