Why We Need You:

PEMCO has a dynamic and challenging opportunity for a Data & AI Product Manager to join our community. In this role, you will be responsible for identifying and defining requirements and data product needs across all insurance functions, and AI-driven initiatives. Acting as the agile Product Owner for the Data Engineering team, this position drives the data product backlog, prioritizes deliverables to maximize business value, and collaborates with business stakeholders to define and develop data solutions. This position reports to Director, Data & AI Products & Programs.

What You’ll Be Doing:


  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive product backlog for data, analytics, and AI solutions across product, underwriting, claims, marketing, and customer experience functions.

  • Collaborate with the department director to define and prioritize the roadmap for data, analytics, and AI products, aligning deliverables to organizational goals and timelines.

  • Act as the primary point of contact for data engineering teams, ensuring they understand the importance and impact of each requirement.                                                

  • Apply Product thinking in building & translating business requirements into functional and technical needs, creating detailed user stories, epics, and data requirements documentation.              

  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration with Product, Underwriting, Claims, Marketing, Customer Experience, Analytics, and AI teams to gather and prioritize data and AI-driven business requirements and act as a liaison to ensure understanding and alignment on priorities.                     

  • Partner with data science and analytics teams to define and implement AI and advanced analytics capabilities, including predictive modeling, machine learning, and customer insights.                                                                                                     

  • Develop and communicate strategies for leveraging AI and analytics to optimize claims reserving, underwriting, marketing, and customer experience.         

  • Identify opportunities for implementing AI models within the insurance value chain to drive efficiency, enhance risk assessment, and improve customer engagement.                                      

  • Lead agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, backlog grooming, and retrospectives, to drive alignment and progress within data and AI teams.

  • Coordinate with claims reserving, marketing, and customer care stakeholders to ensure seamless delivery of AI-driven data solutions.                                                                                                 

  • Define and validate user stories, specifications, and acceptance criteria for data and AI products to ensure they meet functional and business requirements.                                                                                                                         

  • Collaborate with data engineering and testing teams to verify quality standards and address any functional gaps.

  • Participate in test case reviews to confirm that designs meet specifications and operational requirements

  • Support the broader analytics and AI strategy by identifying opportunities to integrate machine learning, natural language processing, and predictive analytics into existing data products.                                                                        

  • Maintain awareness of industry trends and innovations in AI and analytics, identifying relevant opportunities to enhance capabilities.                                                                                             

  • Serve as the data product expert, training stakeholders on data and AI product functionalities in claims, marketing, customer care, and underwriting.               

  • Collect and analyze feedback on AI-driven and data products to inform continuous improvement and future roadmap development.

What You'll Bring:


  • BS or other professional degree, or equivalent work experience

  • 10+ years in Data Product Ownership, Product Management, or similar role, with experience in analytics and AI in insurance or financial services, including experience in data engineering, analytics, and AI concepts, particularly as they relate to underwriting, claims reserving, customer insights, and marketing optimization

  • Experience with product thinking and product mindset in deploying Data & AI products is preferred

  • Proven track record managing end-to-end product development and delivery of data and AI solutions, ideally within an insurance setting.


  • Job Specific: Proficiency in data and analytics platforms, including data lakes, warehouses, SQL, and AI/ML tools like Python, TensorFlow, or R.


  • Job Specific: Skilled with cloud environments (preferably GCP, AWS, or Azure) and Agile project management tools like JIRA or Confluence.


  • Communicator: Communicates clearly and informatively, verbally and in writing, with colleagues, customers, and the community in both technical and non-technical professional language


  • Business Environment: Has a thorough understanding of our industry, the relevant business landscape, and trends in growth and insurance environments; can spot early indicators of change and apply strategies to adapt quickly

Compensation:

The pay range for this role is shown below. Compensation decisions are determined based on an individual’s qualifications, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.


  • Greater Seattle area target pay range: $147,38-$180,139.  The full pay range is $122,823-$204,704.

  • Outside greater Seattle area target pay range: $130,072-$158,976.  The full pay range is $108,394-$180,655.

Greater Seattle Area is defined as working within approximately 100 miles of Seattle.

Outside Greater Seattle is defined as working approximately 100 miles or more from Seattle.

Benefits:

Regular part-time PEMCO employees working at least 24 hours per week and regular full-time PEMCO employees are eligible to elect coverage under medical, dental, and vision plans for themselves and their eligible family members with generous employer premium cost shares. In addition, as a benefits-eligible employee, you are:


  • covered by employer-paid basic life and accidental death & dismemberment insurance policies as well as long- and short-term disability benefit coverages.

  • eligible to participate in PEMCO’s 401(k) plan which includes a generous employer match (2 for 1 on the first 6% employee pre-tax and/or Roth deferral, up to federal maximums). 

PEMCO provides the following paid leave programs for benefits-eligible employees in their first year of PEMCO employment:


  • Vacation accrues at a rate of 10 days for new hires, and increases based on a schedule to a maximum annual accrual of 25 days based on tenure

  • Granted four (4) personal days immediately upon hire

  • Paid holidays for the eight (8) holidays observed by PEMCO throughout the calendar year.

  • Granted up to ten (10) days of sick leave immediately upon hire (pro-rated based on hire date and full-time/part-time status), which is approximately 28 hours more per year than the Washington state-required accrual

  • In addition, PEMCO provides paid time off for bereavement, jury duty and employee volunteering in the community.
