PURPOSE:
The Jewish Board's Adult and Family Residential Division supports domestic violence survivors and their family members. Using a non-judgmental, trauma-informed approach, staff guide the residents to create and meet personalized recovery goals, to stabilize their families, to develop independent living skills, and to plan effectively to be able to live in a healthy and secure manner. Our work is guided by principles that emphasize the critical importance of safe and stable housing, utilize a culturally competent and anti-racist lens, and respect the dignity and legitimacy of each individual's journey.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Case Assistant is the introductory level of direct care staff working within the Jewish Board's residential Domestic Violence program directly serving adults and children.
KEY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Resident Support
Sets up vacant apartments for new families admitted to the program.
Completes apartment inspections to ensure that all safety and sanitary conditions are maintained.
Completes intake phone screenings (with training and supervision).
Provides Orientation/Intake for new residents.
Develops, and may run activity sessions.
Accompanies clients on trips and outings and supervises activities.
May be called upon to work one on one with a client who is displaying significant stress.
Ensures that the residents understand the rules and regulations of the facility in which they are housed.
Monitors and ensures that security is maintained within the facility.
Conducts hourly rounds of the facility and document all activity in the Communication logbook.
Shares their experience and observation of the clients under their care with the treatment team and immediately brings to the attention of the supervisor any unusual issues.
Administrative Support and Coordination
Supports clinical and case associate staff in their work with residents.
Provides services to those residents within the scope of program regulations and agency mission.
Completes regular and timely documentation of all resident interactions, including informational notes.
Files incident reports, as appropriate.
Participates in planning and execution of special and holiday events.
Participates in regular staff meetings and trainings.
Travels to off-site meetings and trainings, as needed.

Experience working with individuals living with serious mental illness, substance use disorders, or trauma required.

EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING REQUIRED:
High school degree or HSE (required).
Two years of experience in a Human Services or Community Mental Health setting preferred.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED / LANGUAGE PREFERENCE:
Willingness to work with a population who have survived the trauma of Domestic Violence population, many with experiences of homelessness, mental illness and substance use.
Compassion and respect for vulnerable individuals.
Patience and understanding for the sometimes slow process of stabilization and recovery.
COMPUTER SKILLS REQUIRED:
Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite of products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
Ability and willingness to learn new systems and application software.
VISUAL AND MANUAL DEXIERITY:
Engage in physical activities within the residence
Ability to read paper and electronic documents
Ability to perform data entry into various computer programs as needed
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL EFFORT
Ability to travel to visit residents in apartments or to escort residents in the community.
Valid driver's license and willingness to drive agency van preferred.
Ability to lift 25 pounds to assist residents and to manage stairs in walk-up buildings as needed.
