Job Description:

St. Norbert College, a nationally-ranked, private, Catholic, liberal arts college is seeking an Assistant Manager for Ed's Coffee Shop (https://www.snc.edu/dining/eds/). This position is responsible for the functional supervision of Ed's Coffee Shop operations. The Assistant Manager will supervise, train, schedule, and coordinate the work activities of the student workers. They are also responsible for filling orders, preparing food, stocking, and maintaining inventory.



This is a year-round/12-month position. The hours are Monday - Friday from 11:00 am - 7:00 pm with rotating weekends (during the academic year). Some later evenings are required as needed. Summers and academic break hours will vary and will include days, nights, and weekends.



Specific responsibilities:



  • Perform all operational job functions which include but are not limited to preparing all menu items to order, receiving orders from customers and utilizing the Point of Sale (POS) system, arranging and rotating stock, and following all health codes and HACCP plans in place.




  • Recruit, hire, develop, and mentor student staff. Create and maintain all student job aids, training materials, and programs.




  • Schedule all student staff and oversee workflow.




  • Maintain and utilize tools to foster an atmosphere of inclusivity and collaboration.




  • Assist in reviewing menu selections and pricing. Develop new menu items based on industry research and community feedback.





Required Minimum Qualifications:



  • High School Diploma or equivalent.




  • Associate's degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management is a plus.




  • 3-5 years of experience working in food service or a restaurant or specialty coffee shop.




  • 2 years of supervisory experience.




  • Ability to obtain ServSafe Certification within 90 days of hire.




  • Knowledge or ability to learn how to make a variety of drinks and food related to coffee shops.




  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse campus environment or commitment to do so as an employee of St. Norbert College.




  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including professional interaction with coworkers and customers, conflict resolution, and written and verbal communication.




  • Effective multitasking, time management, and task prioritization, even in a fast-paced and noisy environment.




  • Proficiency in basic math computations and familiarity with computer programs like Microsoft Office and Google Apps, with the ability to adapt to new technologies.




  • Sound judgment and decision-making, coupled with the ability to set a positive example for others.
