POSITION SUMMARY:

A Research Technician position is available in the lab of Dr. Paula Bickford. The selected candidate will be responsible for running multiple experimental projects for Dr. Bickford. This will involve planning experiments, performing behavioral testing, performing surgeries, and doing immunohistochemical and biochemical tests at the end of the animal study. The incumbent will assist the work of students and other workers in the lab so that the work is accomplished quickly and reliably.

DUTIES:
• Plans and conduct research protocols involving animals including performing surgeries.
• Performs immunohistochemistry and quantitative analysis of slides
• Performs behavioral testing of animals including analysis of data and generating graphs
• Assists students and other volunteers, works with graduate students and post-docs
• Develops and maintains standard operating procedures for all assays
• Will assist with other research-related tasks as needed
• Will participate in lab meetings, grant writing, and manuscript preparation

QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience):

Minimum Qualifications:

This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and three years of laboratory or research experience. College coursework in natural or physical science may be substituted for the required experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

It is preferred that the candidate possesses a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in biochemistry, molecular biology, immunology, or closely related field. It is also preferred that the candidate be self-motivated and independent/comfortable seeking and obtaining feedback from peers and colleagues. Excellent organizational skills and familiarity with word processing and imaging software would be a plus. It is also preferred that the candidate be comfortable handing animals and have prior experience with animal procedures and tissue culture.
