Position Summary:
his role is responsible for evaluating, analyzing, and determining risk exposures on new and renewal policies. The Senior Underwriter ensures underwriting guidelines are adhered to while providing exceptional service to agents and brokers. This position collaborates closely with internal teams to maintain efficient workflows and support company goals.
Primary Responsibilities:
Evaluate new and renewal applications to determine risk acceptability, policy terms, and pricing, making recommendations or decisions to accept, decline, or modify risks.
Analyze loss histories, financial statements, and other critical details to assess risk exposures accurately.
Collaborate with agents and brokers to provide quotes, handle endorsements, and resolve underwriting issues promptly and professionally.
Develop and maintain effective relationships with agents, providing guidance and ensuring a high level of service.
Lead renewal preparation by gathering required data, reviewing applications, and ensuring timely processing.
Perform complex underwriting reviews for larger or more intricate accounts, balancing profitability and market competitiveness.
Coordinate and oversee policy documentation, including set-up, endorsements, cancellations, and audits.
Partner with risk control and investigative teams to order reports and gather additional information as needed.
Review and apply ISO, NCCI, and other industry standards to ensure compliance and proper risk evaluation.
Provide training and mentorship to junior underwriting staff to enhance team capability and knowledge.
Participate in special projects and initiatives to improve underwriting processes or address strategic objectives.
Qualifications:
5+ years of Commercial Insurance (Workers Compensation, property and casualty) underwriting experience, including complex account handling.
Advanced knowledge of commercial rating, risk assessment, and policy terms.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial, loss, and industry data.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with proven experience in agent/broker relations.
Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively while meeting deadlines.
Demonstrated leadership or mentoring experience.
Strong sense of urgency and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in policy rating systems, ISO, NCCI, and other regulatory guidelines.
Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Salary Range:
$110,000-$140,000, commensurate with experience.
