 TITLE: Coordinator of the Kentucky Mobile Health Unit 
DEPARTMENT: Health and Nutrition 
REPORTS TO: Associate Dean, College of Agriculture, Community and the Sciences 
CLASSIFICATION: Staff-12 months 
EFFECTIVE DATE: TBD 
STANDARD WORK HOURS: 37.5 hours per week 
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-Time 
EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Exempt 
LOCATION: Three Openings -- One position will be stationed in Paducah, KY, One position will be stationed in Louisville, KY and One position will be stationed in Hazard KY.  All will be required to travel to Frankfort approximately 2-3 times monthly  JOB SUMMARY:   The Coordinator of Kentucky State University (KSU) Kentucky Mobile Health Unit will implement efforts for the screening of vulnerable populations in Kentucky toward ensuring the health and well-being of our community's most vulnerable individuals. The mobile health units will screen for diabetes, metabolic disorders, and cholesterol in underserved rural and urban communities, as well as provide nutrition programing for food for health, especially in either eastern or western Kentucky and West Louisville. The mobile health unit will also work in collaboration with local healthcare providers and organizations.  Coordinator of Mobile Health will coordinate with the KSU Land Grant Program, the KSU School of Nursing, and public health programs, as a vital tool in addressing healthcare disparities, promoting preventive care, and improving the overall health and well-being of these communities.   ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:   

  • Perform thorough health screenings and assessments, identifying physical, emotional, and social needs of vulnerable populations.

  • Demonstrate compassion and empathy while communicating with patients to establish trust and a safe environment for screening procedures.

  • Educate patients on preventive measures, healthy lifestyle choices, and available resources to enhance their overall well-being.

  • Work closely with healthcare professionals, including nurses, doctors, and social workers, to create personalized care plans for vulnerable individuals.

  • Accurately document patient information, screening results, and progress in electronic health records for effective data management.

  • Maintain and code the filled-out consent forms from the participants using the HIPPA Regulations

  • Conduct scheduling, communicating and coordinating the anthropometric and clinical screenings with the participants.

  • Collate the clinical and other scientific data on the participants.

  • Coordinate and assist various activities of the undergraduate and graduate research assistants.

  • Coordinate the statistical and other relevant computational aspects of the study.

  • Write reports and assist the PI in the scientific manuscript and other publications.

  • Show cultural sensitivity and adaptability to understand and cater to the diverse needs of vulnerable population.

  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  •   KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:   
  • Graduate of an accredited RN program with current Licensure without restrictions.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients and healthcare professionals.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Basic computer skills, specifically with navigating within databases containing highly confidential information.

  • Basic Life Support and other advanced training as appropriate, within 90 days.

  • Capable of working collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.

  • A strong commitment to cultural competence and sensitivity in healthcare practices

  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.

  • Ability to take initiative and be resourceful and punctual.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Ability to adhere to deadlines.

  • Valid driver’s license is required.
  •   SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:  
  • This position does not have supervisory responsibility. 
  •   WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:   
  • Work is normally performed in either a typical interior/office work environment or at off-campus events featuring Kentucky State University. 

  • Must be able to work outdoors in a wide range of weather conditions, including heat or rain.

  • Ability to lift 15lbs required. 

  • This position requires some night meetings, weekend work, and attendance at out-of-county meetings.
  •    OTHER DUTIES:  
  • The position will conduct other duties as needed.
  •   QUALIFICATIONS:   Current MA Certification from AAMA, AMT, NAHP, NCCT, AAMP or graduate of an accredited RN program with current Licensure without restrictions or Associate Degree in related field with additional medical certifications such as EMT, Phlebotomy, SRNA, CPR, etc.Prior experience working with vulnerable populations or in a similar healthcare setting is preferred.   Licensing and Certifications:  
  • A valid driver’s license and ability to drive a truck or health unit in Kentucky for official duty travel are required.
