Vertiv is seeking a highly experienced and commercially savvy Senior Procurement Engineer for Sheet Metal to join our team. The ideal candidate will have 15 years of experience in the sheet metal manufacturing industry, an engineering degree, and a proven track record of partnering with Procurement, and Engineering teams to create a competitive advantage. This role is critical in driving innovation, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness of our sheet metal operational development within our supply base. We can hire in Westerville, OH, Lombard, IL or Anderson, SC.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Collaborate with Procurement, Engineering, and Sheet Metal suppliers to develop and implement prototype and product introduction strategies that enhance our competitive edge in the sheet metal industry.
Lead the Prototype development processes to ensure speed to market and reduced prototype lead times by improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the prototype development process
Lead the sheet metal optimization of components and processes.
Advance should cost models for prototypes and production parts to ensure speed, cost, and pricing accuracy
Develop and manage manufacturing complexity models that align with supplier capabilities and improve prototype delivery & production delivery performance
Partner with suppliers to develop and implement should-cost models that enable accelerated development of prototypes.
Identify and evaluate new materials, end-to-end technologies, and processes to improve performance and reduce costs.
Provide technical expertise and guidance to cross-functional teams on sheet metal-related issues. Manages the part and product delivery timelines and timing objectives to meet the goals of the Engineering, Offering Management, and Procurement organization
Development of end to end sheet metal prototyping process that enables speed to market, easy access for engineering, design for manufacturability guidance
Leverage market experience and update industry trends to inform strategic decisions
Build and maintain Executive relationships with strategic suppliers, including pricing process alignment, optimization of manufacturing lead times, manufacturing technology capabilities, available production capacity, and quality performance monitoring.
Develop supplier capability matrix and ensure the appropriate sheet metal technologies are ready for launch before needed by for Product Launches
Manages the part and product delivery timelines and timing objectives to meet the goals of the Engineering, Offering Management and Procurement organization
Identify and drive best practices related to Sheet Metal prototype sourcing, pricing and total cost contributors, quality, efficiency, speed and responsiveness.
Ability to apply critical analysis of procedures and processes and develop alternate solutions to address supplier production delay risks and challenges
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of 10 years of experience in the sheet metal industry, preferably in a direct sheet metal production manufacturing environment, with a deep knowledge of the manufacturing processes, equipment capability, production technologies, and alternative manufacturing methodologies used in the industry
Strong commercial acumen and experience in partnering with Procurement and Engineering teams as well as suppliers
Strong proficiency in MS Office applications, sheet metal manufacturing software (e.g. Creo, SolidEdge, SolidWorks, Inventor
Experience in Total Cost of Ownership thought process (solutions thinking vs piece part)
Ability to develop Key Performance Indicators specific to the delivery performance of engineering samples and prototypes
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically.
Proven ability to lead projects and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Requires strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and cultivate productive and lasting relationships with cross-functional teams and suppliers in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
