Job Summary

The Senior Structural Engineer is responsible for leading the discipline within the Columbus, OH operation. The role will involve performing structural design of steel and concrete structures required for stationary and rotating equipment systems within a varying array facility types and industries. This includes foundations, pits, retaining walls, structural steel buildings, platforms, trusses and towers, as well as modification to existing structures. This involves computer modeling, using RISA 3D, STAADPro, SACS, and REVIT software to design structures and modules from conceptual engineering through fabrication and installation. This also includes coordinating with and directing Structural Engineers, Designers and Drafters with varying levels of experience from entry-level through senior to accomplish project tasks.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

· Responsible for the conceptual, preliminary and final design of structural aspects of all EDG projects where this is part of the contractual scope of work;

· Responsible for the structural engineering and design deliverables quality control process for assigned projects;

· Execute conceptual and preliminary designs, including preparing quantity estimates;

· Responsible for interpretation of and provide guidance to other project sub-consultant's work, such as geotechnical, surveyors and site-civil engineering;

· Research and compliance with Project Design and Building Codes;

· Develop structural aspects of Project Design Criteria;

· Produce general layouts and arrangements for structures to support process stationary and rotating equipment systems;

· Modeling and analysis of structural systems;

· Development of structural design loads;

· Shallow and deep foundation modeling and design using geotechnical data;

· Coordinate and direct designers and drafters in the creation of 3D models and 2D drawings;

· Conduct internal and client project meetings including 3D models, capture action items, and guide driving the action items to closure within the structural engineering discipline;

· Interface with Project Managers, Engineers and clients;

· Review and check designs to ensure feasibility and compliance with client specifications, industry standards, applicable regulations and any other specification on a particular project;

· Analyze designs for efficiency of construction, use of materials, structural integrity and practicality of design;

· Develop or alter standard project specifications to meet specific project requirements;

· Research, learn and implement differing design techniques which may be industry specific;

· Coordinate with others with respect to total project systems which would include mechanical, structural, civil and electrical components to allow considerations of those aspects into a project or area design;

· Review certain vendor/fabricator shop drawings and provide redlines documenting changes needed;

· Maintain project structural calculations and files;

· Perform the necessary field work to obtain accurate information for the design;

· Provide input and participate in junior engineer performance reviews.

· Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

· Required or Basic Minimum Qualifications

· BS or MS in Structural or Civil Engineering;

· PE registration is required;

· Ten (10) years' or more of applicable experience in the design of industrial steel structures and deep foundations in stationary and rotating equipment applications;

· Prior consulting engineering experience is preferred with an understanding of how to manage team utilization on weekly basis;

· Knowledge and experience using structural design codes, including IBC, OSHA, AISC, ACI and ASCE design guidelines;

· At least five (5) years successful experience leading a team of engineers inclusive of supervising and/or directing the work of engineers, drafters or other engineering support staff;

· Ability to interface with 3D models using Autodesk Navisworks or similar software;

· Availability and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously;

· Availability and ability to work overtime as needed based on project, may require the ability to travel to client sites

· Strong written and verbal communications skills;

· Ability to interact with staff at all levels.

Preferred Qualifications

· Past experience with building a new team or augmenting and existing team through interviewing, hiring, mentoring, and training.

Working Conditions

· Standard base schedule M-Th 7:30-5:30, Fri 7:30-11:30 with flexible schedule approvable by supervisor

· Hybrid schedule allowing flexibility to work from home two days per week

· Interaction with other team members, as well as supervisors and client personnel

· May be required to travel out of town on a periodic basis to obtain project field data or attend project meetings

· Field duties may require outdoor work in a plant, facility or terminal environment

· Working in plant and/or shop areas around production machinery with extreme noise levels

· Must be able to wear safety equipment as required by the safety department for personal protection
