Job Description:

About the Position

We are seeking an ITS/Broadband Inspector who will focus on construction engineering inspection duties for broadband installation and associated construction. This position could be at the Inspector Aid, Inspector I, Inspector II, or Sr. Inspector levels, dependent upon the education and experience of the finalist selected.

This is a long term, full-time, on-site position. The location is 'rolling', meaning as the project progresses, the site location will change. It is expected to start in the Macon, GA area and end close to Valdosta GA. We will confirm these details with the finalist prior to the start date.

Responsibilities

The following responsibilities are examples only and represent an Inspector Aid level finalist. These responsibilities will become increasingly more complex and additional duties could be added if an Inspector I, II, or Sr. Inspector finalist is selected. Confirmation of duties and responsibilities will be provided to the finalist selected for the role.

  • Will perform a range of routine and standardized work including, but not limited to, manual and/or electronic calculations, computations, and inspections of construction processes and materials to assure compliance with the construction contract.
  • Will inspect truck load tickets for roadway aggregate base course; borrow material and asphaltic concrete at project field sites.
  • Will perform a variety of simple materials sampling, inspection and/or testing.
  • Will provide inspection and materials verification for ITS/Broadband systems installation.
  • Will perform contract administrative duties, which may include field measurements of pay item quantities, project close-out, as well as other Department required documentation.
  • May be required to use number of different pieces of equipment such as Slump Cone, Air Meter, Measuring Wheel/Tape, Thermometer, etc. Incumbents will be fully trained in the use of equipment necessary to accomplish their work.
  • May be required to work at remote sites around construction equipment, drilling rigs, explosives and environment contamination.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Proficiency with computers (e.g., Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Outlook, internet, etc.)
  • General knowledge of mathematical functions.
  • Skill in the use of office equipment such as calculators.
  • Ability to learn and interpret such things as construction plans, contract provisions, and inspection procedures.
  • Must be licensed to operate motor vehicles in accordance with Georgia Law.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Non-engineering/Construction Management Degree; OR High School Diploma or GED and four (4) years of progressive transportation technician experience as an employee or consultant for a State Highway Agency; OR an equivalent combination of training and directly related experience.
  • Experience in the installation of ITS and/or underground fiber, cable installation or similar types on construction.
  • Thorough or considerable knowledge of materials, methods and equipment used in highway construction.
  • Considerable knowledge of mathematical functions.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and explain such things as construction plans, contract provisions, specifications, and inspection procedures; ability to take notes and prepare or review reports; good communicative ability; and ability to instruct other employees in proper work methods.

Compensation Details

The salary range listed for this role is $20-45/hr., dependent upon the level of the position the finalist is hired into (Inspector Aid, Inspector I, Inspector II, or Senior Inspector). The final salary offered is based on multiple factors and is thoughtfully aligned with each candidates level of experience, breadth of skills, total education achieved, certifications/licenses that have been obtained, etc.
