A Day in the Life
In this exciting role as a Sr. EHS Manager, you will be responsible for the implementation of Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) policies, programs, and systems to comply with Federal, State of Massachusetts, and local EHS regulations as well as Company policies, strategies, initiatives and goals. In this role, you must demonstrate the ability to build trust and confidence with cross functional operations teams and influence change through providing comprehensive risk assessment and safety data analysis. To do so, you must be an effective communicator and send clear, concise and consistent messages, both verbally and in writing. In addition, you will be responsible for managing and developing a team of EHS professionals to execute pro-active EHS policies, programs and systems.

Major areas of emphasis include manufacturing operations, industrial safety, risk assessment and controls utilizing hierarchy of controls, industrial hygiene, ergonomic injury reduction, regulated waste management, machine safety, electrical safety, air emissions management and reporting (including Greenhouse Gas), EPCRA Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) reporting, and wastewater management / permitting. You will monitor workplace safety risks and environmental impacts through observation of work processes, equipment, and the work habits of employees with emphasis on safety and health programs.

This position will be 100% on-site supporting manufacturing at the Danvers, MA campus and requires flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including nights and weekends, as required to support direct reports and site needs within a 24/7 operation.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned. Develops, administers and implements environmental, health, and safety programs in accordance with governmental requirements.


  • Develop, implement and enforce EHS procedures, programs and processes in alignment with regulatory and company requirements. Programs include, but are not limited to, the following: hazard communication, hazardous materials management, respiratory protection, hearing conservation, lock-out/tag-out, emergency response, confined space, personal protective equipment, ergonomic safety, industrial hygiene, material handling, machine safety, hazardous waste management, and others in compliance with Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) and Federal OSHA regulations, corporate EHS Management Systems requirements, and NIOSH guidelines.

  • Be a strategic functional partner for the Danvers, MA Site Leadership Team in driving long-term actions to achieve risk reduction.

  • Measure site performance against published requirements in Company EHS Management Systems. For all deficiencies, identify a plan for the site to implement and fix all identified deficiencies.

  • Provide project management on site initiatives to drive world-class EHS performance. Perform targeted Kaizen events in partnership with the Operations teams based on the risks identified in each task.

  • Pro-actively identify and take corrective action against activities that pose potential threats to workers' health or safety, which may include recommending organizational measures to protect workers' safety through revised methods, processes, or materials; inspecting workplace environments, equipment, and/or practices to ensure compliance with standards and regulations; and investigating and/or identifying causes regarding filed incidents.

  • Deep dive safety metrics and review incident trends to discover trends to justify the allocation of appropriate resources to areas where the safety risk is highest. Ensure appropriate and timely corrective action is taken where environmental, health, and safety hazards exist.

  • Promote employee awareness/training on matters of environmental, health, and safety to foster a culture of belonging and personal ownership / accountability for EHS.

  • Evaluate proposed regulations to determine financial, industrial, public, and environmental impact. Collaborate with regulatory agencies to determine applicability and corrective action plans.

  • Review for effectiveness the deployed EHS tools and revise to ensure continual improvement.

  • Collaborate with EHS network globally. Partner with other Medtronic EHS team members to leverage global EHS best practices into the Danvers, MA location.

  • Depending on position location, may monitor pollution prevention activities, compliance and auditing efforts.

  • Conducts studies and prepares environmental impact reports for new construction projects, plant processes and permit changes.

  • Reviews and analyzes environmental documentation issued by regulatory agencies; collaborates with regulatory agencies to determine corrective action plans.

  • Evaluates proposed regulations to determine financial, industrial, public and environmental impact.

  • Interacts with regulatory bodies to resolve compliance issues; establishes permit requirements and assists in regulatory audits.

  • Represents Company in government and industry rule-making activities.

  • Ensures appropriate corrective action is taken where environmental, health, and safety hazards exist.

  • Identifies and takes corrective action against activities that pose potential threats to workers' health or safety, which may include recommending organizational measures to protect workers' safety through revised methods, processes, or materials; inspecting workplace environments, equipment, and/or practices to ensure compliance with standards and regulations; and investigating and/or identifying causes regarding filed incidents.

  • May provide/promote employee awareness/training on matters of environmental, health, and safety.

  • Minimal travel ~5%.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required in Industrial Management, Engineering or Science discipline.

  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in the design, development and operational oversight of EHS disciplines within a Lean Six Sigma manufacturing organization, with 5+ years of managerial experience OR an Advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the design, development and operational oversight of EHS disciplines within a Lean Six Sigma manufacturing organization, with 5+ years of managerial experience.

  • As the Sr EHS Manager , this position requires flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including nights and weekends, as required to support direct reports and site needs within a 24/7 operation.

Priority will be given to applicants who have education, experience, and/or certifications in the following areas:


  • Advanced degree.

  • Proven track record of strong project management performance with experience driving multi-phase projects to completion including diverse project teams and multiple stakeholders.

  • Leadership through influence in matrixed organization and ability to work well in a team environment including cross cultures.

  • Ability to strongly advocate for and represent EHS and Sustainability to a cross functional team and site leadership.

  • Deployment and implementation of EHS programs and initiatives across a multinational organization.

  • Occupational safety certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP).

  • OSHA training and certification

  • Proven track record of implementing and managing EHS programs, conducting audits and inspections, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Experience in data analytics associated with EHS electronic management systems.

  • Strong leadership, teambuilding, and influence management skills.

  • Proven technical, problem solving, and project management skills.

  • Excellent communication and training skills.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$138,400.00 - $207,600.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
