As the Lead Electrical Engineer you will provide leadership and design, development, optimization and problem solving of equipment with a strong customer focus and an eye towards innovation. It is expected that at any given time, multiple on-going projects and improvement opportunities will need engineering support across multiple technologies and will need to provide direction and guidance to a broad range of team members. Flexibility will be a key to being successful in this role. Reporting to the Engineering Manager for Tissue Machines, Pulp Production, and Warehouse, the primary focus of this role will be the TM17 Tissue Machine asset at the Chester plant.

In this role, you will:


  • Provide technical guidance on resolution of process and equipment problems with a long-term reliability mindset


  • Ensure effective Safety and Quality practices


  • Implement projects and programs with excellence to deliver against business unit objectives with innovation


  • Lead single or multiple product or process improvement projects with a financial scope of up to $10 million from conception through commercialization and can support larger projects as a member of project teams


  • Manage self and others in accordance with KC’s Ways of Working including leading through influence


  • Provide functional leadership and creativity in the initiation of design, development and optimization equipment and processes to meet unit objectives


  • Develop knowledge and skills to be recognized for expertise and functional leadership in application of engineering principles, scientific analysis and project management while providing advice and counsel to others


  • Seek, recognizes, define and solve problems to achieve unique objectives


  • Identify complex technical issues to determine root cause


  • Participate in the development of others within the area of expertise

In one of our manufacturing roles, you’ll focus on winning with consumers and the market, while putting safety, mutual respect, and human dignity at the center. To succeed in this role, you will need the following qualifications:


  • A Bachelor's or advanced degree: Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited College or University and 4 years or more experience in plant or staff engineering assignments


  • Experience with manufacturing control systems, such as: PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), variable speed motor drives, VFDs (variable frequency drives), Motion Control (Servos), HMI (Human Machine Interfaces), distributed control systems, instrumentation, power distribution, machine safety systems


  • Expertise in Electrical Engineering with a demonstrated ability to translate that knowledge into execution of process and capacity improvements in capital or expense projects


  • A demonstrated ability to perform in cross-functional teams to achieve project results within required timeframes. Experience working with external technical service providers


  • Experience in managing multiple simultaneous technical efforts or projects


  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills


  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, especially the ability to convey complex technical information in simple, easy to understand terms


  • Willing and able to travel domestically as needed up to 15 - 25% travel


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience with the following manufacturing control systems:



    • Allen Bradley and/or Rockwell Automation PLC's, and variable speed motor drives and servo drives


    • Modicon PLC’s


    • Honeywell TDC


    • Wonderware and/or Allen Bradley HMI




  • Quality focused with an ability to translate customer expectations to engineering solutions


  • Proven ability to help build talent within the organization


  • Experience with the preparation of labor and capital estimates


  • Experience with the use of Lean tools
