Hiring rate $23.278/hour minimum. Additional $3.00/hour facility differential for hours worked. We want you to join our team!
The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) employs nearly 2,300 team members operating nine institutions, which house approximately 5,200 inmates, statewide. The department's focus includes inmate programming and education, physical and behavioral health care, re-entry services, and community programs, and is accredited by the American Correctional Association (ACA). DUTIES:
Prepares reagents, compounds, solutions, cultures, or catalysts for use in testing and/or processing samples.
Operates, calibrates, and cleans or performs minor repairs to laboratory instruments and equipment.
Records or enters and maintain documents/data on daily analysis activities and findings to comply with record keeping requirements and to ensure information is available for future study and/or presentation.
Uses electronic medical record system for scheduling and documenting laboratory specific items.
Perform phlebotomy and collect other specimen for laboratory testing.
Gather information to assist with process improvement of laboratory/clinic processes.
Requirements/Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: At least one year of post high school coursework/training in health, chemistry, biology, or related field and one year of experience in a scientific laboratory
Preferred Qualifications: . Prefer at least one year of experience in phlebotomy and/or specimen collection.
Other: Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam, and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program
Knowledge, skills and abilities
Knowledge of: agency laboratory procedures and protocols; laboratory safety and sanitation practices; chemical, biological, environmental, and/or microbiological methods; state law and rules and agency policies, procedures, and standards governing the analysis of chemical or biological samples; knowledge of lab instrumentation, operation, and calibration; techniques of training and leading others.
Skill in: operating computers and laboratory equipment; interpreting laboratory results; maintaining laboratory instruments and work environment in a safe and operable condition; summarizing findings and conclusions of tests and analyses into technical laboratory reports; reviewing the work of other scientists.
Ability to: communicate effectively; interact with laboratory/Health Services staff; understand and follow supervisory instructions, equipment operation manuals, and safety policies; compare the specifications of laboratory equipment, instruments, and materials to agency product standards; instruct other laboratory staff in the policies, procedures, and standards of a laboratory function.
